Goose Neck Hitch Options

We have found a gooseneck trailer and are getting the truck ready so we have options for the hitch. The truck came with 5th wheel hitch rails already in it so the easier hitch it to install the gooseneck hitch that attaches to the existing rails. It does not look like this type of hitch can be moved to ‘disappear’ or lie flat.

Does anyone have this type of set up for their goose neck? I need pros and cons because the price is much lower than the hitches that ‘disappear’ or lie flat.

The advantage of the “disappearing” hitch is that you retain maximum use of the truck’s bed for performing tasks other than hauling. The B&W hitch offerings in this type are First Rate.

I have had gooseneck hitches with the removable ball, and they are definitely nice for using the entire truck bed without getting grease from the ball all over stuff. I currently have a flatbed with a trap door for the hitch ball and love it as well. Mine is a B & W, but I have also had Reese hitches as well, with no issues.

Best price on a B&W Turnover Ball is from www.tweetys.com - There is no other hitch for me

Think about if you need the bed to be flat or not. It will be pretty cheap to get an attachment to convert the 5th wheel hitch to a gooseneck ball.

I have one of those gooseneck hitches that attaches to the fifth wheel rails and am perfectly content with it. It’s not difficult to take out and I just remove it when I need a flat bed. The rails are still in the bed of course, but they barely stick up and lumber, etc. slides over them easily. This “spider” kind of gooseneck attachment will sit a couple of inches higher than the kind installed directly in the bed so you want to make sure the gooseneck post on your trailer is adjustable if your truck sits up kinda high.
