GoPro, Contour, BulletHD?

Hubby has a Legend car and wants to car cam his races, I would love to do Xc helmet cam… Most of the drivers use GoPros, but was wondering if anyone had used any of the bullet-cam types? They seem lighter/less bulky and I know at least one that is waterproof without having to buy a separate case…

Maybe also check Ion - the bicycle riders in the Tour of Utah were using those…

HD Ghost made by Drift.

Apparently better than a Go Pro, according to my motorcycle techy friends.

I just like it because it is small, waterproof, clips onto my helmet with ‘sticky’ mounts (easy peasy!) and fairly idiot proof.

I have the Contour Roam 2. It’s super simple, single slider bar on-off (easily managed with a gloved hand, no buttons to find), and has good image stabilization. Mounts with the sticky tape and is very secure.

I have the Contour HD and once I got a bigger chip than the teeny one it came with it’s great!. Fairly water resistant (survived 2 trips to Ireland) and works in cold (below freezing) weather. It is easy to use, but the limitations are that it has a lot of wind noise, and it doesn’t do low light very well.

As with any helmet cam, you don’t quite know what you are shooting until you take it off and download it, so there’s a bit of trial and error in the set up.

I just got the SJ4000 from amazon. Its a GoPro knock off but only $100. It comes with all the attachments and is compatible with the GoPro attachments. I can’t believe how good the quality is. I think its better than the GoPro. You can look up some comparison videos online. After this could never imagine spending 300+ for other actions cameras. And it comes in a bunch of cool colors.

I use a GoPro and love it. Use an ap on my phone to control it, super easy.

I went with a Sony HD Active cam. A little less expensive than either the Go Pro or the Contour though the contour was my first choice. The Sony can be both side and top mounted, I am working with the side mount and not quite got it worked out.

The picture quality is amazing, and sound also is good with some air noise, but you can still hear the rider (me, I talk a lot to Sterling). It also has the ability to see the video stream from a smartphone for adjustments and comes with various recording formats and a GPS tracking system as well. It may be worth checking out in comparison.

DoubleDown, what app is that? I got frustrated constantly having to finagle with the one on my helmet while mounted/with gloves on. An app would make it a lot easier!

This is what I use. It is the size of a large lipstick and is side mounted. I take my skiing also.
