Question, are all GPAs a different size shell, or are they like Samshield in that their padding changes the size? I ask just because there is a size 6 7/8 helmet on sale that I’d like, but I’m a 7.
If it’s a 6 7/8, then it is a true 6 7/8. It doesn’t change into a range of sizes due to padding like Antares helmets do (S, M, L).
Which, by the way, I find it really… strange that some of these manufacturers (Antares, and I guess Samshield) are just padding up helmets for them to fit you.
GPA’s used to be sized only in centimeters which was much more useful as most people can put a tap measure around their head.
I spent a good deal of time talking with GPA, as I was looking for a First Lady in a size 61. They informed me that they just have 4-5 shell sizes, then pad them accordingly and I couldn’t get a 61 because they don’t have certification in the First Lady model for the shell size needed to make a 61 or 7 5/8.
I bought a 7 1/2 instead, and when removing the padding for adjustment, I noticed that the shell is stamped 57, but the actual helmet is branded as a 60.
I am so confused on helmet sizing these days, I can’t even tell you. My GPA says 58 - 6 1/8 but my head measures a 57 with hair down and 57.5 or so with hair up. Yet my GPA feels snug. Granted it’s an older Titium and that may have something to do with how they were sized then vs. now…but I’m just lost.
I was looking at a Samshield, and it fit well, but I was torn between that and the Jin helmets which I really love that you can open and close the vent in front based on the weather, and I ride and show year round in all kinds of conditions.
I forgot what size I fit in the Samshield, but the Jin does cm as well. I’m just concerned because ISellTack.com Jin Helmets is the only place I’ve found in the states that I can order one, but based on how the GPA 58 is small on me, I don’t know what to do. I’m afraid to order a 58 and have it not fit, but not be able to send it back since it’s imported from Italy. But I’ve heard SO many good things about Jin’s stuff that it makes me really want to try their helmet.
samshields DO NOT fit like GPAs.

Definitely not even close to what I was asking. The samshield comes in various shell sizes (S,M,L) with different size padding to make it more specific. I was asking whether GPA does the same with the shell sizes and varied padding sizes.
And IMHO, I’ve tried on both, and currently own a speed air, and they both fit me well. But that is a nonissue.
