GPS on horseback resurrected...any new models or what do people love?

So I know this topic was covered in April on the Hunting forum, but I am looking for a GPS to take out hunting with me. I am still learning the territory and it would be so helpful to explain to DH where I have been hunting that day when I come home if I actually know exactly where I have been!

I know I would prefer a wrist model as I am less interested in where I am going while I am out hunting (but if I get seriously lost would like to have the ability to use it) and more interested in mapping where I have been once I get back home.

The units mentioned in the earlier thread were the Garmin 305, the Garmin eTrex and eTrex Legend and the Garmin Foretrex I believe. I’m not sure what else is out there that people really love to use!

Anyone who has one-what do you like/not like/wish it did do/didn’t do? Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

I am also cross-posting this in the hunting!

Thanks!~

I use the Everytrail app on my android phone, and it works great.

Unfortunately cell reception is terrible in our territory and it runs down my battery too quickly, so that is out. I wish it would work, it would be much cheaper and easier!

Mine doesn’t require a cell signal…the battery issue is a bit of a pain though.

I use the EquiTrack app on my iPhone. It doesn’t require a cell signal either (I ride in some remote areas) and I haven’t noticed a significant drain on my battery. I know you’re looking for a specific GPS device, but it might be worth a look if you don’t find what you’re looking for. Good luck!

Second Equitrack. It doesn’t drain my battery like my Gaia GPS app does and I love how it logs the miles for each horse.

Thanks for the equitrack suggestions! I will give that a try to see how it works and if it doesn’t…head the gps route!

Thank you!
