GPS Tracker for your horse?

Has anyone put a GPS tracker on their horse? The new product that will supposedly let you know if your horse is colicing got me thinking. I’ve got a larger property and something that would let me know if the horses got out would be awesome. Something like the Tagg pet tracker. I’m doing some research to see what I can find that will work, but was wondering if anyone was doing this.

Tagg battery life is AWFUL once the animal moves out of radio range. Like 24 hours.

We use the Tagg tracker for the goat herd, as during most of the year they browse on very large tracts of land. Yes, the battery is very short lived. We remove it every evening when the goats return to the barn and it gets charged for the next day.

Comes in handy when I need to bring them in for whatever reason and I don’t have to search a huge pasture or forest. I can also track their movements so that if for any reason a goat does not return with the herd, we can follow their paths and search.

But probably not suitable for horses with large areas to roam? The battery is just not long lived enough once they move out of the “home” zone.

I think a German shepherd dog would fit that bill of need as I believe each of ours when the go out they appear to be counting the horses to make sure they are all there… if they don’t see them all they will walk the fence looking for them
