Grand National on U.S. TV?

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Jack Doyle, the rider of WAYWARD PRINCE, which fell at the fourth-last fence, had continued in the race when his horse appeared to be exhausted. They interviewed the rider and having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found him in breach of Rule (D)45.3 and suspended him for 12 days as follows: Saturday 19 April to Saturday 26 April inclusive and Thursday 1, Friday 2, Saturday 3 and Monday 5 June 2014.[/QUOTE]

He got off way too light. That has to be one of the worst displays of horsemanship I’ve seen from a jockey. The horse was tailed off, and obviously out of gas. The should have thrown the book at him. I’ve seen jockeys banned for longer for a lot less.

Interesting;
Pineau de Re is a bay gelding with no white markings bred in France by Michel Hardy. His sire Marresco Sorrento was a winning hurdler in France and has had some success as a sire of jumpers. His dam, Elfe du Perche was not a Thoroughbred, being of Selle Francais ancestry. The gelding was sent into training with Philip Fenton at Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary.

I saw it!

I love this race. I love how the horses who have lost their jockeys keep going, jumping along with the rest of the field, at one point in today’s race two of the leaders were loose horses!

I love the Kentucky Derby too, but this race makes the Derby look like a pony ride.

Thanks to all who replied to my question. You have made this day so cool for me. All winners!

Nothing like forcing an exhausted horse on. Over jumps no less. :no:

Yabbut. There’s a stunning amount of TB in Selles Francais… I’d love to see Pineau de Re over here running over timber…

In the old days ( like the '60’s) it was not terribly difficult to get papers “for racing purposes only.” Is that no longer the case?

I used to love watching this race, for some reason this year the whole thing reeks. Jockeys dropping like flies, loose horses galloping on and many times causing injuries to the horses still racing, the obviously exhausted horses being pushed, etc. Color me jaded because I’ll never watch it again.

He is qualified for a passport to race in GB so why could he not race here ?

His only non-TB line came from a mare in the 1930’s, and she was registered as Demi Sang. Other than that, all of his ancestors for seven generations are TBs.

But the US racing establishment requires pure TB to race here. He doesn’t have the number of pure TB generations to qualify for TB papers.

French chasers are very often not pure TB. Many of them are registered as AQPS rather than SF.

I truly think this is one of the most inhumane animal activities there is. Makes me literally sick to my stomach. Celebrating that no horses died for two years in a row while half the field doesn’t make it around. Look at these pics, there are bodies littering the ground. They might as well feed the losers to the lions and be done with it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2597634/Thousands-racing-fans-flock-Aintree-ahead-afternoons-Grand-National-HALF-Britains-population-expected-place-bet.html

Are you saying #10 applies ?

No mention of having to be a TB in the Maryland Governors Cup meeting for 2014. All it says is that the horse must be acceptable to the committee.

Pineau De Rey is registered at Wetherby’s as a non thoroughbred;
