Does anyone know if the Grand National is going to be televised in the U.S.? I think it is being run this coming Saturday, April 5th.
Looks like it’s on HRTV. 8:30am ( I assume that’s eastern time)

Post time is 4:15pm local time, which is 11:15am eastern, 10:15am central, and 8:15am pacific.
Sorry, Drvmb1ggl3, I know it’s a matter of national pride and all but I think they should rename it the “British National Demolition Derby”. Wonder how many good horses won’t be returning to their stables this year? This race is barbaric!
Thanks, Toadie’s mom and Drvmb1ggl3. Wish I had HRTV! Will try to be up and around by 11:15 in order to watch in live stream on BBC!
rcloisonne, I didn’t ask for opinions on the race, rather I asked if it is going to be televised here. If you want to preach against it, go start your own thread.
I know it isn’t live, but it is also showing on April 9 on channel 620 on Directtv.
Thanks, BCGirl. I have friends who have Directtv so will ask them!
I called my cable company and got the sports package with HRTV included added today just for tomorrow. I will cancel it after that. It will cost around 30 cents to have it for a day. Well worth it to have the National on TV.
Don’t know if you’ll be able to watch but; http://tvnewsroom.co.uk/sport/crabbies-grand-national-2014-live-channel-4-tv-66086/
Also of interest. I found this whilst looking for video replays of the Topham and Foxhunters which Racing UK have not posted on YouTube. http://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/video/
The jockey Club in the UK post videos of all races held at all Jockey Club sanctioned racecourses. All Aintree races from the past two days are up there, plus a calendar where you can find races held on any date you please (at least back through 2010 that I saw.)
Thanks, everyone! I tried to watch it live stream on BBC/whatever and apparently they are just not streaming it. Where’s the fruitbat on that? Oh, well. over now anyway so I will try to catch it on BBC at some point, or youtube.
Wellspotted, you can watch the replay at the link Lcsd provided. Spoiler ahead so don’t read further if you want to watch it first …
… Battle Group really did not want to play today  The loose horses wreaked a lot of havoc, seemingly more so than usual.
Any news on Wayward Prince? He looked exhausted and just staggered to the ground, should have been retired.
Just want to point out that these horses are often 14 years old. If they get an injury, they are given the time off, rehabbed, bought back - one or two seasons.
They are bred for the job, with stamina. How many flat horses are in that league and don’t get past their first season?
The GN has been modified since the days of real carnage, too.

The winner has a non TB tail female many generations back, so would not be allowed to race in the US.

Now it is lesser carnage???
When the word carnage has to be used in regard to any horse sport…
SHAME.
SHAME.
SHAME.
Apparently all 40 horses and riders (including the one that didn’t want to play) have come back safe and sound. There have been several mentions that the winner (who shall remain nameless in this post as I don’t want to be the spoiler) is a small horse. Anyone know how small is small?

BBC does not show horse racing any more. Channel 4 has acquired the ‘free to air’ rights for all British racing.
Channel 4 did hire a lot of the BBC racing team though (Claire Balding, Rishi Persad, Mick Fitzgerald etc).

The Beeb did not get the broadcast contract. Channel 4 did.
4.15, fifth race

When these riders moved forward towards the start they knocked down the Assistant Starter, thereby comprising the welfare of an Official. After taking initial evidence from the riders and the Starting Team, the Stewards adjourned the Enquiry to consider the matter. In attempting to re-convene the Enquiry after the last race, the riders, who had not been given permission to leave the course, refused to attend the Enquiry. The Stewards have referred the matter to the British Horseracing Authority.
The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Jack Doyle, the rider of WAYWARD PRINCE, which fell at the fourth-last fence, had continued in the race when his horse appeared to be exhausted. They interviewed the rider and having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found him in breach of Rule (D)45.3 and suspended him for 12 days as follows: Saturday 19 April to Saturday 26 April inclusive and Thursday 1, Friday 2, Saturday 3 and Monday 5 June 2014.
