I can’t watch. I can only look at the score updates.
Still, freaking Germans! No room for mere mortals.

I WAS behind, just finished watching the Swedish rider with the fancy bay with chrome and now NBC went to ‘Gold Zone’ and won’t go back to the equestrian feed. Huff puff - I wasn’t done! I wanted to see Desparados…

I kind of agree! I got the feeling that the commentators felt the scoring for piaffe seemed a bit high considering it seemed a bit disjointed . . .
Yeah thought piaffe should have been 6s, think judges were awarding 7/8. Also pirouettes weren’t on the spot and the horse wasn’t straight in the 2s (most aren’t though). Actually thought the zig-zag should have scored higher, think they gave it a 6.5

I hope you have unlimited data on your phone!! I just got my bill for last month and I went over my data…only 2 days and not much browsing, but catching!
So no way am I using my phone without wifi… unless you do have wifi at the cottage…
Can’t wait for jumping!
Thankfully, yes, we do have WiFi at the cottage, but I’m going to try to stay off my phone as much as possible and enjoy the outdoors Guess we’ll stream the Games on the app after the kids have gone to bed!
(FalseImpression, it just occurred to me that I remembered your user name from EMG LMAO.)

Freaking Germans. 1, 2 and 4–and Isabelle still to come.
Talk about domination!
They are always so good, but I do hope Steffen and/or the US medal I am loving the new, up-and-coming American dressage riders!
For all you cord cutters.
Go and buy 2 years worth of Hot Spot Shield @ $2.08 per month; you can watch the Beeb and all the other channels in the UK and beyond, undisturbed, for all that time.
Hola would not work through my work firewall but Hot Spot does and will give you added protection whilst browsing.
Yes, what is it if NBC, I lost my equestrian feed too, grrrrr.

I didn’t even think the piaffe should have been in the 6’s–rhythmic irregularity, lack of straightness, and not really pushing from behind causing poor form warrant 5s, but I guess other movements were brilliant so that added a bit of a halo effect to scoring.
There were strong points to the test, I just thought it should have been more of a high 79/80 test, not an 82 point whatever. Dorthee’s test in my book is still the best we’ve seen.
I thought Carl Hester’s test was on par with Gal’s, just different strengths/issues.

They are at break now, and I think the next session will be listed as “afternoon”. The “morning” session just ended.

Scheduled to resume at 12:30 pm EDT with the Australian Kristy Oatley’s ride!
The thing with Desperados is that they really made it look quite effortless, especially that extension! I liked them more now then in London. The piaffe could have been better for sure, plus the zig zags, but a beautifully elastic and light ride.
Impressed with Diederik as well. Really liked the frame he presented on Orlando with plenty of zest. Deja was wonderful sans the piaffe today. Legolas looked like he was ready to give even just a bit more - think they were opting for careful and mistake-free today.
So far, been my favorite group of horses and riders coming together overall. Usually, it is just three or four that really wow me above the rest, but finding so many here that may not excel in every movement, but super impressive nevertheless. Great progress in regards to training as well as breeding while still producing quite the variety vs carbon copies.
And more of the best still to come!

Awesome, thank you! I am in the US with no cable subscription and I am able to watch on this site. had to click past a few scary popups and was prompted to create an account (but did not). Just kept closing things and now I’m able to see.
Yikes, not sure this site is safe…my Norton antivirus is going crazy.
Yes but how did that compare to the other judges and they may have a different vantage point based on the movement judged. As long as they are not way out of line it is deserved.
I thought Desperados was over scored on quite a few things, especially the first piaffe. Yes, the Germans should win gold overall easily I would think, but scores like that leave a bad taste in my mouth.
From Carl Hester’s Facebook:
“Frustratingly a Pokemon at P! A lot of points lost but lots to like! Tomorrow is another day!!”
Love him! And I love how he always stays positive and just lets stuff roll off.
From what I can tell…
For current team placings we can say GER is Gold and no on can touch them.
GBR and USA = Too close to call right now. We are marginally ahead, but Valegro is coming.
NED = They need 74% to tie GBR and USA current totals. Not sure what will happen after Blueberry and Diddy get done.

Agree - after the gauntlet of Germans lets see what Diddy and Blueberry can do!!
I’ve been impressed with the NBC live stream. No buffering/jumping/crashing like we had last time.
I felt like Desperados was very over-scored on the piaffe work. I expected that test to be 78/79. I felt like Deja was over-scored there as well.
I think it’s fascinating to see how Carl and Steffen have developed Barney and Legs over the years. Really a masterclass in how to bring the best out of a horse with good consistent riding - even where the natural talent is perhaps a bit less than some other horses.
Catherine Dufour was impressive.
Team standings at the moment:
1 – Germany (80.190%)
2 – Netherlands (75.586%)
3 – USA (75.176%)
4 – Great Britain (75.124%)
5 – Sweden (73.767%)
Less than .5 percentage separate Netherlands, USA and Great Britain, with the strongest combinations yet to go for the Netherlands (Hans Peter) and Great Britain (Charlotte).
Like I said a few weeks ago, I think it would take an act of God for Germany to not win Gold. And as much as I would love to see the USA eke out a medal, I don’t think Laura has a snowflake’s chance in hell to beat Charlotte, or Hans Peter for that matter. Netherlands and Great Britain will be battling for Silver, which puts USA in 4th place (unless Tinne can pull off a big score for Sweden).
And yes, I know team medals won’t be decided until after the GP Special. We can always hope for a miracle, right?
I wonder what the scores would be like if no one knew who the horses/riders were? Seems like some of the top riders got passes on issues (like the piaffe work) that the lesser known riders did not? Maybe I’m wrong, just my overall impression though.
