Grand Prix Dressage stallions who produce QUIET Grand Prix Quality foals

Mooiman (Flemmingh x Roemer) has a lovely temperament that he seems to pass on to his offspring. He’s approved KWPN, just finished his first season at international GP. He is the first horse his rider has taken to GP level.

Not sure if he is available in the USA but I know he is available via Canada.

The stud website is www.holdenfolddressage.com Angela and Brian are brilliant to deal with. My mare went to the stud for her AI but I know quite a few folk who have had semen delivered and always had a first class service.

I have a stunning rising 3yo filly by him. She is out of my old mare who got to PSG/Inter I competitively. Mum is 7/8 TB and is lovely natured, quite sharp under saddle albeit very trainable. Filly moves way better then her dam, good hindleg, lovely temperament, very intelligent and really easy to handle. She was reserve champion at her foal keuring. Don’t have any pics at work (where I am now) but will try and link some up later.

For me it would have to be Flemmingh. I think he is one of the only stallions who ticks all of the boxes for your friend. He has produced many GP performers, he is known to produce a wonderful temperament in his offspring and he crosses extremely well with Jazz. I used him on a crazy hot but very talented mare and got a sweetheart of a filly who was biddable and trainable and extremely beautiful.

I also rate Mooiman. He hasn’t yet been used much outside the UK but I’ve read many times from many different people that he always improves on the mare and they have never seen a bad Mooiman youngster. For the last couple of years at the UK Keuring the Dutch inspectors have had his youngstock as champion and vice champion, ahead of youngsters by more famous KWPN stallions such as Jazz and Goodtimes. His temperament is fabulous, his youngsters are starting to make their mark in national competition in the UK and in Holland where one was in the top 7 at the PAVO cup. He’s also just had his first stallion son approved. Definitely one to look at.

Contucci[/QUOTE]

For sure! I love mine.

I would suggest Contucci too!!! I adore the Contucci mare I have here  Very talented, and much easier to work with over the Jazz filly!

I second Contango!

“I would really consider Contango to meet your criteria: this is an established “nick” and Contango gives really good minds with incredible work ethics.”

Some very interesting ideas everyone!

I agree with Indylou on Contango! Great suggestion!

Warmly,
Karin

Keep in mind that a Grand Prix horse has the easy ability to do two and one tempi flying changes as well as piaffe and passage. Stallion who can’t get past third or fourth level and have no offspring past those levels are probably not bringing the genetic skills to the table. JMHO but based on personal experience.

Donnerhall and Rubinstein bloodlines are generally considered the best bet for great temperaments and rideability, combined with good aptitude for upper level success. There are several stallions from these bloodlines here in N.A. that have had or are having success at GP, including Don Principe, Rubino Bellissimo, Don Pikado (another Donnerhall son), also several that are nearing GP such as Rollingstone. I am also betting that Rosenthal could have made GP if he had stayed in training and hadn’t had to overcome a very, very serious injury as a young horse that nearly left him crippled. It is really a testament to his incredible temperament that he made it to PSG.

I also agree with the Contango and Flemmingh suggestions - they are well proven for producing top class FEI horses. Contucci may also prove to be a reliable sire of FEI horses - I don’t believe that he was actually shown at FEI (and certainly not at GP), but he has a plethora of youngsters moving into the FEI ranks. Jazz I am not so sure about. Yes, he is top of the FN dressage sire rankings and produces very talented youngsters, but they are also well known for being very quirky and probably not at all what the OP is looking for. Ditto for Pik line horses - they too are generally a bit quirky and not reliable in producing top rideability.

Bugatti Hilltop - combines Donnerhall, Rubinstein and Bolero - all known for their rideability and trainability and all either at or producing FEI level horses. I’ve had 5 Bugatti foals so far and they have unbelieveable character, temperament and presence. Three are under saddle and doing very well. His oldest foals are just coming 6 this year, so no FEI yet, but the promise is there and Bugatti, himself, is doing extremely well now at Intermediare and schooling all GP.

You asked.
We often are told how easy the Olivier offspring are. All of the young horses by him which are now competing were started and continue to be ridden by their junior, young rider and amateur owners. These are all horses bred by other people, out of a wide variety of mares.
The ones that we have bred are still too young, or they would be added, as well.
We often hear the term, “horse of a lifetime” used when referring to these horses. Trainers and clinicians who have worked with the horses are equally complimentary.
Olivier competes at Grand Prix with a rider who was not yet eighteen when she took over the ride.
He received the Crown predicate this year from the KWPN for performance in international dressage.

I second Olivier. I’m one of the lucky ones that has had 4 of his foals out of 3 different mares. I’m obviously a fan!. All 4 have been sensible, very good hind leg mechanics and very friendly - not to mention extremely attractive. His older ones are now under saddle and the oldest has been showing and winning in eventing under a junior rider. Amazingly good brains and lovely movers. The various new owners are thrilled with them and I’m positive that, if ridden by an experienced upper level rider, any one of them could rise to the top. There is no doubt in my mind that this stallion could produce a serious GP prospect. JMHO!

This is a no brainer …IDOCUS ! ! !

I have a mare by Cocktail (Jazz’s sire) and she has 6 foals by IDOCUS and so far evey single one of them are brilliant and accomplished which includes the oldest (7 yrs) is a confirmed 4th doing well now at PSG. That colt was also Cosequin Dressage Champion TWICE ! The colt I have is a thrill to be around and he was USDF All Breed Reserve Champion Weanling Colt. The 4 yr old just won in California at 1st Level with scores in the upper 70’s but for a mare has an incredible temperment and of course IDOCUS’ most famous foal OLIVIER who as a Stallion was/is ridden by a young girl to 2 Brentina Cup wins so I’m assuming his temperment is great as well as brilliant. IDOCUS hmself is as nice of a horse as you can get as well as very well respected. As for Tasker’s “Waldaire” he is a nice horse and is an absolute gentleman, has shown GP but there is just no WOW factor to him. He’d probably cross well with a hot horse but who wants an AWR when you’re really looking for a Duitch KWPN stallion…

Easy Rider, your latest Idie baby looks so much like Olivier’s 3/4 brother, belly spots and all:

http://www.imajica.net/buttersconf04.jpg
This was taken when he was a yearling. He outgrew his beer belly and is now a very promising dressage horse.

Your mare is by the same stallion as our other KWPN stallion, Hierarch. Idocus x Cocktail is a super cross.

Easy Rider - FYI Waldaire’s birth registry is the AHS and he is approved GOV & ISR/OLDna as well as AWR but like you say, he is almost too obedient & quiet in his old age, so he probably lacks the ‘extra something special’ for the OP…but his kids can be ridden by just about anyone, so I’ll take the flaw! We’re breeding riding horses after all, right?

FWIW - I have an Idocus out of a traditional old fashioned reliable Hanoverian mare. She is HOT & REACTIVE…beyond sensitive and smart as a whip. Fab mover, fair conformation (Idy did not improve the dam) but hot!

OP Good luck with whichever stallion you choose!

Hi Steph, sent you a PT.
Ang

Olivier was awarded the Crown Predicate? Congratulations!

He was, thanks!
He is also completing the last bits for KWPN approval.
