Any COTHERS who have mini donks, please weigh in? Good fit, bad fit brands? I need some durable, extremely well-fitting ones because my two clowns will want to rip them off each other.
Thanks!

At risk of sounding like a broken record, I’m copying my reply to another recent thread about grazing muzzles:
I use a Greenguard with my mini-donkey. I do think it restricts intake well because he goes out overnight (14-15 hours a day) with the horses on good grass, and he stays at a healthy weight.
I use it with a regular nylon halter with a breakaway strap. Greenguards do seem to require more adjustments to make them comfortable, but their customer service is amazing and they are happy to make recommendations if you send pictures. I was emailing back and forth with April this past holiday weekend about adjusting the new one I bought my horse!
Greenguards are well worth the money, in my opinion. My donkey’s is a year old and still looks brand new. He was miserable in the Best Friends one I tried before.
They will refund or exchange within 30 (?) days if it doesn’t work for some reason. Like I said, great customer service. Can’t recommend the muzzle or the company highly enough.
Do you have more than one mini donkey? My guys rip things off of each other, and I’m concerned about the muzzles staying on and in one piece, and especially the halters staying on if I do use a breakaway strap. These littles pull well-adjusted regular nylon halters off of each other, no problem.
I haven’t been able to do more than try them on, but the Cashel grazing muzzles fit my mini horses well. One is 32" tall and has a small head, and the muzzle fits on the smallest adjustment. No probs with fit on my 34" mini.
They have a solid rubber bottom with a small hole. I’d imagine they’d be difficult to pull off. Though its a fine line btw having a muzzle that stays on during rough play but will also come off if they get hung up on anything.

I don’t but I have a very mouthy 3-year-old warmblood who plays with his BFF mini-donk, and the muzzle has never come off. Greenguards are super durable so I wouldn’t worry about the muzzle itself being damaged. However, it can’t do its job if it ends up on the ground every day. OTOH, if you don’t use breakaway straps I would worry about one of the donks getting caught somewhere, or a hoof or jaw getting caught in the muzzle/halter. Maybe dry lotting or limited turnout would be a better option for these boys?
I have 2 mini donkeys and really like the Tough-1 Easy Breathe Muzzle. This is the first year that I’ve tried that brand. I have some older ones but I can’t remember what brand they are. I decided to try the Easy Breathe because I noticed that the webbing on the other ones went right over their nostrils and they seemed to have some trouble breathing when they were really playing hard. Mine play, and they play hard, and so far they have not been able to get them off. The only issue that I had was due to me not having it tight enough when I first got them, and one was able to rub his down over his face so it was hanging around his neck. Once I re-adjusted it, it has been fine. I’ve been using them since March and there is no noticeable wearing of any of the parts. I got mine from SmartPak and they were reasonably priced.
The good thing is that if you have both of them muzzled, they really can’t grab to pull each other’s muzzles off
Jumping in here- for those with the grazing muzzles, can your donks still eat hay with them on? We have a mini donk who is getting, shall we say, plump, and she’s not on grass but has access to high quality hay 24/7 turned out with the other horses. We would rather not separate her, if possible, and are looking into grazing muzzles to limit her hay intake. They primarily eat out of hay nets.
Greenguard
LIFE ALTERING for my mare-
nothing else comes close. I put mine on a leather halter-mare has never got it off.
This is an older thread. Any updates? I have been using a “Barn and Stable” I ordered years ago from I can’t remember where. One donkey is great. The other is getting nose rubs despite me adding (and keeping clean) fleece on the nose bridge. I’ve adjusted every way I can figure (it is very adjustable, throat latch, crown, cheeks) but he just gets a new rub in a new place. Sounds like Green Guard is the way to go? Other options? TIA
