Grazon causing nose quiver?

Has anyone had a horse exhibit mild neuro symptoms after spraying pastures with Grazon? The pastures were sprayed two days ago (while the horses were stabled), allowed to dry, and then the horses were turned out in the evening. There was a strong herbicide odor when we turned out. I noticed my horse’s muzzle twitching and quivering every few seconds when I brought him in yesterday morning. It was still twitching and quivering when I turned him out again that evening. It’s particularly noticeable when he steps back (like when he’s retracting his head back into his stall). None of the other horses are doing this. Thoughts? Is it connected or a random coincidence?

Nope. Used Grazon for 15+ years, never had an issue. I spot spray with the horses in the paddock, or boom spray with the horses off for about an hour or so.

With a herbicide and animals ingesting it I think anything is possible. I also believe there is a huge difference in spot spraying weeds in a paddock and spraying a pasture where everything is hit. What doesn’t affect 1 horse may bother another.

I personally would wait till it rains to put him back on the field. We don’t spray our pasture, I have goats do my weed control.

It’s hard to say if it is coincidence.

Usually when I hear people discussing issues with livestock after an application of something, it has to do with whatever solution being used being improperly diluted. Products that usually cause no issues can become very problematic if mixed incorrectly.

Regardless of how it was mixed, I would switch to a different product if I were in your shoes. I personally use Pasture Pro a great deal with no issues.

Thanks all! His nose twitch seemed to resolve in 48 hours. Very odd!
