Great Horse Movie Scenes

I have only watched that show occasionally. I had never seen that one!

About 4:50 into this clip - I think it’s from one of the Paleface movies - is a very funny, if silly, scene of Trigger and Bob Hope sharing a bed:

The Ride of the Rohirrim from Return of the King: https://youtu.be/7lwJOxN_gXc?si=olaFHlVS4vaBhV6G if I’d gotten to be one of the extras on horseback, I’d want it on my tombstone.

Additionally, one of my absolute favorite clips is as 4:24, where you see the CGI horse go down, and a second later, the chestnut in the frame kicks into high gear. Gives me goosebumps every time.

The Man from Snowy River - Jim’s ride scene as mentioned above, but also the ‘breaking in the colt’ scene featuring the beautiful piece of music called Jessica’s Theme.

International Velvet - when Sarah realises she has been given the foal, and the beautiful beach riding scenes.

Yeah, Lee Marvin’s Oscar acceptance speech…”Somewhere in the Valley theres a horse…” to thunderous applause…not the usual golf clap.

We went to see Horizon last Friday (wasn’t too bad, yeah, a lot of it was problematic) but they did have a good scene of a boy escaping a massacre riding a horse hell on leather while leading another and then switching to the other horse mid gallop. Made me think of the times I’ve ridden at a full gallop and my horse wanted to get there as much as me. I’ve thought about it for days. Riding fast over rough ground, it made me remember.

I love this movie! In this scene my favorite part is when the guy looks at the bell and the trainer had swapped the regular one with the old firehouse buzzer. When Sea Biscuit made his move I jumped out of the theater seat screaming “come on Biscuit come on”. :joy: Re-watching it I’m struck by the similarity to little Mine That Bird skimming the rail in the KY Derby and busting out in front. So incredible exciting!!

I just watched the clip from Man from Snowy River linked above. I’ve seen that many times in my life but I still get a rush of adrenaline every time he jumps over that edge! Such a great show of the power and beauty of horses and what they are willing to do for us.

Also interesting at this point in my life to look at the equitation. :grinning:

yeah, the way you know it isn’t faked is the trees being straight, so it isn’t done with camera angles, it is really that steep.

I’ve always loved how, in a movie with exceptional music, the music suddenly quiets for the descent of that cliff. Just one low tone, steady, underneath. The sudden quietness makes the scene all the more dramatic.

I bought the soundtrack album for that movie. It is one of many I have.

I Just watched calamity Jane again for the 100th time. The scene at the end of the movie where she os chasing the stage, brings a lump to my throat, and my eyes get moist. I know that is a stunt rider, but that is a TREMENDOUS scene, with the music swelling. I just tried to find a link to it, but coudn’t find that one. Great scene!
