page 59 shows that double bridle is allowed in 4* and 5* only

Is there a way to watch the rides from today? I’m only seeing GM 2019

I never quite understood why doubles were allowed at Intermediate 2*/3*/whatever…it is roughly equivalent to 2nd level, and should not need a curb for that level of collection.

Would have thought the bit check would catch that, but some shows’ covid protocol is by-passing the bit check and/or dropping bridles after the test for visual inspection. Sucks to be eliminated for missing a new rule change, but such is the sport.

Often the tack checks are after the test or if they are provided before the test, the rider may decide to do the check after their ride. Total rider error and responsibility.

Yes, I thought bit checks were always after the ride?

Wondering from a perspective of another rider/owner/groom/stable neighbor - if you saw someone with a double and knew it was illegal, would you say something? Would you say something if it were an amateur, but maybe too afraid to say it to someone like Liz HS or another BNR?

Or are you too involved in what you are doing to even notice? I’ve never been involved to that level so this is a serious inquiry and am not being snide.

@jcraig10 I believe in fair play, and I hope us eventers would step up and let the rider know, I know I would. I was a rider, am an owner, and my children ride and the Eventing family has always been there to help each other (at least from my experiences). Of course, sadly, there are some that wouldn’t.

If I noticed I’d say something, and I think most people would.

You can watch here (but it’s subscription) https://horseandcountry.tv/en-us/liveevents/

What does NP stand for in the scores?

I’m guessing not presented for the jog?

Ahhh, I didn’t think about there being a jog, thanks!

People sometimes warm up in a double and switch to snaffle right before going into the ring or They might have thought she was on a 4* horse (I think they are still allowed) not a 3* horse…there can be any number of reasons including…most likely…they also didn’t know the rule changed as many people don’t ride in a double anyway so wouldn’t know the rule changed.

Is anyone able to get yesterday or today’s video to replay? Maybe they need time to process it… I think the pages I’m finding are for the live feed which has ended.

Only yesterday’s dressage is working for me

At the dressage shows I have been doing, the first show did bit check before the ride and whip check after, and the rest didn’t have it at all.

I don’t know that I would notice as a rider- I get absorbed in my warm up and tend to not notice other riders unless they are really drawing attention. When I was grooming, I would probably have approached her groom casually about it- and I have done so, in the past. I am also a little surprised a steward didn’t say anything- my rider liked to carry his whip until the last possible minute, and I was frequently asked by stewards if he had forgotten to drop his whip, and did I want to remind him? IME, they were pretty invested in not sending anyone into the ring with illegal equipment. (Not casting any blame here- just my experience grooming at a lot of big events with a rider who walked the line!)

ETA: bit checks can always be done post-ride, and it is pretty standard to do it post-ride at FEIs, especially big shows where the horse is being examined for noseband tightness and spur rubs, etc. Unfortunate when things get missed, but there are lots of benefits to doing it after the ride (no interruption of warmup, doesn’t stress the horse pre-test, most of these riders have bonnets that need checking too, etc).

yes it does - watching the live feed - have had a couple of spills - didn’t show them and a few near misses… nice to see Buck back in the tack after his injuries.
