Yikes
That was quite the ride. Glad the horse didn’t step on that lead line.
Jockeys are amazing. I’ve seen a few where, breaking out of the gate, the horse does a face plant, jock almost comes off… loosing sometimes a rein and stirrups and hanging on by a thread and they still stay on, get back up and sometimes (depending on how long the race is), regain reins and stirrups before the finish line.
I’d have fallen right off both of those.
This one amazed me.
Well done by that jockey!
Years ago at a talk given by an UL event rider (I don’t remember who), he said jockeys are some one of the fittest athletes around. These videos confirm that.
And now I understand why my trainer is always shouting at me “Sit back! Sit BACK!”
Wow. That is impressive. I for sure would have splatted.
Found some more! Jockeys are amazing not a possibility I would every stay on in any of these scenarios.
To the rest of the world, a sticky seat means you sat in something nasty. To horse people, it’s a compliment!
Do you all remember when California Chromes saddle slipped waaaayyyy back, and Victor Espinoza stayed on and finished the race? Wild!
WOW. Jockeys are amazingly athletic.
Curious how many of those horse that did the slip & slide/splits ended up hurt?
a couple were pulled up, but most kept riding for the win.
Kudos to both the jockeys and some of those horses who did some fancy footwork to keep themselves up!
This one goes off, but lands on his feet and gets back on.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3vXjIFibhs
Holy crap! That not just a hell of a rider, but hell of a horseman. He realized he was trying to mount a bottled up ball of dynamite at a standstill. Horse was D O N E with this standing around BS, so he gets the horse going forward on the ground, mounts (like a friggin’ gymnast; that was hella athletic) at a trot, then off they canter away, horse happy to be MOVING already, jockey uninjured, and both back focused on the task at hand.
Jockeys are some of the most athletic people out there.
You can see how little it takes to send that horse into the air.
Just a bump of the jockey’s leg on the stirrup before he had his foot in.
Not a jockey, just an awesome bit of horsemanship. Have no idea where this is or anything, but thought some might like it.

I might have stuck that first one (assuming I also had the presence of mind to tell the leader to let go) as I’ve had ones where we were either going forward or it was rodeo time and forward is the much better option, but that saddle slip in Sweden I’d have counted it a victory if I didn’t DIE. As for the guy who WON the jumps race, yeah, I’d have lawn-darted. The amount of strength AND presence of mind involved is staggering.
I wonder if the horse got spooked by something behind him that he couldn’t see due to the sheepskin blinders?
