Grrrrrr Why can't questions just be answered?

Sorry minor rant. DON"T really expect answers.

Just want to know why some questions just can’t be simply be answered on this BB. Are people’s reading comprehension skills that bad? I’m not talking about a minor deviation from the question but answers that have nothing to to with the question.

I posted a question in H/J and was asked another question in answer. It is very frustrating to me.

Thanks all I feel better now.

There, there, dear. Feel better now? (pat on head)

Yes I do by golly!

It appears your posted your question only about 40 minutes ago…and the person who asked a question asked a legitimate and helpful question. I don’t get the over-reaction - I hope you’re a teenager!

I thought the exact same thing when I read the post from the H/J forum…wow.

I asked a legitimate question that I wanted a legitimate answer to. I did not ask for other options. Other options did not answer my question nor did it have anything to do with my question. If my question had been “Can you give me ideas for X?” then that answer would have been applicable, how ever it wasn’t.

I am also not really sure as to why the time posted matters if I was simply looking for an answer to my question and it wasn’t answered.

Am I being a little snarky tonight, yeah, I will admit it. Sorry to all it may offend.

Because these are discussion forums - not pros answer all your questions for free forums…

Need specific critical advice? Ask your trainer, tack store, saddle fitter, vet etc…

Want a variety of opinions and ideas - post here…

On the one hand, you post your question and people can respond how they see fit, even if it isn’t remotely helpful.

On the other hand, I agree, it’s very frustrating when you just want an answer to your question, and people insist on offering other advice. For instance, I asked a question about whether a second rein should go inside or outside the forks on a running martingale… that was answered, and then people started question WHY I was using a running martingale and WHY I was using two reins and telling me that I should be doing x, y, and z instead… I wasn’t asking for training advice, I was asking for a very simple answer to a very simple question.

Have you ever eaten a cheeseburger on a cruise ship?

I used a running martingale on my Arabian on the snaffle rein. He would run away with me if he could get the snaffle bit against his teeth.
I had to have a way to keep his nose down and to keep him from taking the bit away from me. He was strong and I had to have something to keep control.
The running martingale helped me alot.
I had someone trounce me over it.
I told them if they wanted to train him out of it they could. But if he ran away with them to it would not be my fault.
She backed off and left me alone after that. ’
Yes in time he did become a good horse and he stopped taking the snaffle and putting his head up so itdid no good.
You do not use a running martingale on the curb rein.
You can refer back to some of the old English riding books from the early 1900’s about this. If you can find them.
It worked for me.
That is all I can say.

:lol::lol::lol:

Well, that was way more elaborate than what I had to say…

It’s called a DISCUSSION forum, not an ANSWERS forum.

To complicate that matter, this forum is open to the general public, so you’re bound to get people in all of these categories:

  • on a soapbox about their pet cause. Example: the people in Horse Care who won't shut up about Insulin Resistance, barefoot-ism, or whatever else. It's their answer to every thread.
  • low reading comprehension. Half the time, I'm convinced that people either didn't read the original question or were too lazy to read the rest of the thread.
  • uneducated on the topic but think they know a lot about it. We've all been in this category at one point or another.
  • People who take it way too seriously. It sounds like this might be you.

OP: pms much?

(this from the poster who’s known to vent to DH over County)

Seriously, take what you find helpful, ignore those that don’t respond to your specific needs and know that this is very small in the big scheme of things. I, too, sometimes feel like I need to explain/ elaborate ad nauseum when I post questions here. Usually it’s when I care the most about the topic…

i let it get to me sometimes too though i know full well i shouldn’t

if you want to get really annoyed, go and ask a question on one of the english equine BBs

I am also not really sure as to why the time posted matters if I was simply looking for an answer to my question and it wasn’t answered.
Because it is highly unlikely that someone with a direct answer will read and reply within an hour. ESPECIALLY if you are posting after 9 PM. Wait at least 12 hrs, and more like 24, before concluding that no one is answering.

Frankly, I think that the answers one gives to another on this board is directly in proportion to the number of years one has been working with horses… In my case it’s around 40 years so my answers tend to be a bit long and contain a lot of stuff other people think is irrelevant, but it’s not. Horses are a complicated animal! I have learned that the more I know, the less I know–but I’m very happy to share with people if they take it in the spirit in which it is intended. No, I don’t know everything–but I do know quite a few things after all these years… For instance, I know that 42 is not always the answer!

And yes, I am old–therefore I go to bed before 9PM nowadays!

What I find interesting is that the minute you don’t agree with something someone has posted some of them tend to go off the deep end… :uhoh:

I think if thats all you have to rant about you are a very lucky person and should be skipping about merrily in your short and baggy boots.

Grrrrrr get a rabies shot OP.

Put the Jonas Brothers on shuffle and suck your thumb next time.
