He’s been having a pretty good season. Very good win in the Woodward. If he does well at the BC do you think he has a shot at Horse of the Year?
I think how all the horses do in the BC Classic will drive HOY, not just Gun Runner. If the old Arrogate shows up and beats Gun Runner, I would think Arrogate would at least have a shot at HOY (since he has won races this year, just earlier in the year).
I know the Classic is 3yo and up but the way the 3yo field has been going this year, anything could happen with both the Classic and HOY
That’s what I’ve been thinking. Nobody in the three year old division has stood out to me, so maybe?
Great horse but his win in the Woodward, though visually impressive, it should have been against that weak field of horses. As the old saying goes, “the only way he could loose is if he fell down, or the jock fell off”. He beat nothing of merit.
Rally Cry, minor stakes winner and placed. 6th in a G-1, 6th in a G-3
Neolithic, a well beaten 3rd in a G-1, 2nd in a G-3 last year to a horse nobody would remember nor any of the horses behind him.
War Story, G-2 winner, G-2 placed
Discreet Love is not even a Graded stakes placed horse.
IMO it was hardly a stakes race worth watching let alone a Grade 1.
IMO the horse of the day of the meet is/was Voodoo Song. That’s my kind of horse to root for.
Graded stakes should have a full field in them. Make it competitive and interesting. Instead of the obvious winner running away from also rans. The best horses doesn’t always win, racing tactics can and do come into play. Makes for a lot more interesting and fun betting race also. IMO the most surprising thing about his win is the fact he paid 35 cents on the bet dollar!
Gumtree, I am completely on board with Voodoo Song. Four wins in a fairly short meet and graded as well.
The thought crossed my mind after I posted the first time maybe the real HOY is Songbird. True she hasn’t raced against the boys but consistently good, solid performances. Her last ended up having a reason for being narrowly beaten. Three races this year, all G1 with a 2-1-0 record and the Personal Ensign she lost to another nice filly, Forever Unbridled, by just 1/2 length
Voodoo Song beat any track records? High beyer? Nice horse no doubt, but what big names has he beaten? I don’t want to sound like I’m tearing him down to build up the other horse, just trying to use your logic as far as other horses in the races.
A horse doesn’t have to run down Secretariat to be considered good.
Nice race with good times.

Voodoo Song… you’re right… one graded stakes race and it was a G3… no beefy fields with “quality” horses but just to win 4 times in a row in the space of 6 weeks shows some grit and durability (at least on the Saratoga surface ). Turf horses are not usually HOY list toppers either
