I’m glad you caught it early! I know of three horses who died from it.
The first was an older pony, they decided to euthanize once they realized what it was.
The second was a 10 year old mare who belonged to a university student friend of mine. The mare was on outdoor board and it all came to a head during exams. Someone had noticed a little blood near a nostril and they figured it was a small cut or something. A few days later another boarder noticed blood on her legs, on the blankets of other horses, etc. They brought her in, I happened to be there and checked her vitals. Her gums were nearly white so the BO called the vet while I called the owner. They loaded her and got her to the clinic ASAP. Unfortunately the nearest surgeon was several hours away and the scope wasn’t very encouraging. The odds for surgery working were very low.
The third horse was a 12yo gelding. His owner was away in the military so he hadn’t been ridden in weeks. The staff didn’t notice any blood on him or in his stall. He was turned out at night since it was summer. By morning he had blood pouring out his nose. The vet came and immediately euthanized.
Sorry, this probably doesn’t make you feel better. But I have my fingers crossed. I don’t think the vets would give you false hope.
