Moving from NYC to San Francisco and looking for H/J barns in East Bay (Oakland) or North Bay such as Novato, Marin, and Petaluma. Looking for place where I can in barn half lease. Even though Bay Area is always expensive, prefer a more affordable barn if that exists lol. I would like to be at a barn where I’m not required to travel far for shows and are more local oriented such as Sonoma horse park and Sacramento shows. Looking for a trainer to help me move up in hunter and equitation levels.

Most of your east bay barns won’t be in Oakland, they’ll be in Castro Valley or on the Tassajara corridor. (Or further out, but I’m guessing you’re coming from Oakland? In which case those are your two best bets.) Blackhound is in Castro Valley and goes to both local and further out shows.
Marin/Sonoma has a lot of options that I haven’t personally kept track of lately to have recommendations. SHP has multiple in-house trainers, so you could show without even leaving!
I find half leases to be increasingly hard to come by these days. You might have to choose the barn and then wait for one to come up there if there isn’t anything readily available.
You might already know this as you’re planning your move, but Oakland and Marin/Petaluma are decently far from each other, especially when traffic comes into play. You may want to narrow it down a little more depending on where you’ll be working and living. I’ve spent many, many hours in bay area traffic driving to the barn and can say that there might never be a perfect barn commute, but there are many VERY BAD barn commutes that will drive you crazy.
