H/J Barns in Chicagoland/Northern IL?

Hi everyone! I’m moving to the Chicago/northern Illinois area in the next couple months and need to find a h/j show barn to take my young, quirky gp jumper to.

Preference to barns that are not on the road all year; if they are, bonus points for assistant trainers at home.

Extra bonus points for good turnout (5+ hours outside, all-weather t/o, etc).

Thank you all in advance!

I’d check out Red Coat Farm with Lisa Goldman - she does a lot of GPs. I have never been to the property though.

Blue Mountain Farm could be another option. I don’t know the trainers, but I used to lesson through a different barn at the same facility - Independence Farm. It’s beautiful there!

Also, I usually look through Lamplight show results to see trainers in the area - https://chicago.showmanagementsystem.com/

I have those on my list to contact, thanks! Would you recommend Galway?

Our Day Farm- Elgin
Judgement Farm- Oswego
Kinvarra Farm- St Charles (close to Lamplight showgrounds)
Downtown Equestrian- Frankfort
Bella Rose- Morris
Deerpath Equestrian- Batavia

Someone already mentioned Red Coat and Blue Mountain. There are many, many other options but I tried to recommend an option in every direction from Chicago.

Some of the show barns go to FL every year so maybe also think about if that’s something you would like to do OR if you prefer a trainer that stays in IL. I also recommend going to one of A shows at Lamplight or Showplace- you can watch some trainers/ stables and see if you find someone that jives with your style of training.

Good Luck!

In Chicagoland for upper level jumpers:

Blue Mountain and Red coat as already mentioned.

Also look at:

Our day farm - Alex Jayne, Bellis - Steve Schaefer, Candlelight (?) - Nick Novak, Kinvarra - Sassmanhausen family and I know they also have a group at home in the winter.

Thank you! I’m in the Midwest area and tentatively know of the barns in the Chicago area, just seeing what reputations they have (and if they hold true) so I can narrow down my list. :joy:

I actually tried calling Galway two weeks ago and filled out their online form but hadn’t heard back. They look really nice!

Deerpath is no longer open to public, sadly! Debbie has been teaching some lessons at the barn I’m at now - I love her, so I’m sad that Deerpath has become a private facility.
