Does anyone know of any good hunter jumper barns in The Woodlands, Texas area? I am moving in the next few weeks and still need to find a place for my two horses. Or any private boarding barns in that area would be great too. Thank you!
There are several good Hunter /Jumper barns in Magnolia. TX, which is fairly close to the Woodlands, including Peter Pletcher (primarily hunters). I would check out the Texas Hunter Jumper Association website for trainer/barn listings.
There are several H/J trainers/barns in the area on the North side nearish The Woodlands. The THJA site lists many of them: http://thja.org/Trainers/Trainers.aspx Look for the people who are shown as being in the Magnolia, Tomball, Spring, Conroe area.
I’m at Sherwood Sporthorses at Buck Grass Stables in Magnolia, close to The Woodlands, and I can’t say enough good about it. I’ve been with my trainer, Jo Schroeder, for 20+ years and love her and trust her completely. The barn facilities are very nice, and the care is excellent. Buck Grass and his folks are just nice people all around. http://sherwoodsporthorses.com/ Jo does the Texas and regional A/AA shows.
While that’s my recommendation (obviously ), there are certainly other options in the area. Tex-Over Farms, where I was for a long time, is very close to The Woodlands, but it is now mostly a dressage barn. Other H/J barns/trainers in the area Tony Font at his Timber Ridge, Peter Pletcher at PJP, Daniel Bedoya, Shane George…
Portia mentioned nice places. You need to determine if you are looking for an “A” show barn or something else. There are tons and tons of barns in the area.
Others near The Woodlands:
Augusta Pines
Hidden Lane Farm
Plus its not uncommon to drive 30-60 minutes to get to the barn. Me-I live in Magnolia but my horse is 45 minutes away in New Caney
Unless things have changed, John DeLeyer is in Tomball and is one of THE nicest people you will ever meet in the horse industry.
My vote would be for Peter Pletcher or Martien Vander Hooven at Augusta Pines.
Martien is very good. I second the Bedoya’s as well. If interested I also have one barn I HIGHLY reccomend staying away from in the Woodlands, they put up a nice setup at shows and have some fancy horses, but the owner is an alcoholic and I had a very bad experience with them back when I was showing. Everyone on here that has been reccomended so far, however is top notch.
PM if you would like the name of that “other” barn.
New Day Farm with trainer Amy Duncan. Small barn with first-class training, good footing, focused care and personal attention. Conservative George Morris-type fundamentals. Specializes in hunters and equitation. She has trained at top touring A barns but wanted her own smaller place. Does local and A shows, depending on the students she has at the time.
