H/J Boarding in Lexington

Hi! Hoping to attend UKY in Fall ‘25 and searching for a barn in/near Lexington. Ideally somewhere with 8+ hours of turnout as that’s what my horse is used to! Not opposed to full turnout board either depending on the facility and shelter.

Budget is ~$1100/month, I probably won’t be showing much but the option to do KHP shows is definitely a plus.

The “fanciness” of the barn isn’t a huge concern, just wanting somewhere clean and well maintained. Thank you all in advance!

Check out River Mountain Farm in Versailles. Elaine Schott runs the program and when I rode there (a long, long, long time ago), I really enjoyed it!

Best of luck in college!

It’s been about 15 years since I lived in Lexington, but I was very happy with my boarding/lesson experience at Punchestown Stable (https://www.punchestownstable.com/). I know they’ve grown quite a bit since I was there, but, back when I was a boarder, my horse was in a big “sensible geldings” field. The horses in that field came in for the lunch time grain feeding, stayed in through the afternoon - super convenient for riding/lessoning after work - and then went back out after the dinner feeding. If one had an injury or the weather was awful, they were of course kept up, but the ~18 hours of turnout was awesome - almost impossible to find in any other show barn type situation.

I’ll second Punchestown, especially for the turnout situation (fun fact, I built that website :slightly_smiling_face:) They will require you be in training at some level, but it’s a really fun group and a lot of the adults there were originally UK students when they first showed up. Plenty of KHP showing opportunities and lots of trips to WEC Ohio. Excellent care, great facilities, and still manages a down-to-earth, workmanlike feel. A bit more jumper focused than hunters, but they certainly have students in both rings.
