H/J Lessons Near Auburn,CA

I am looking for a Hunter Jumper barn near Auburn,ca. I am 13 years old and don’t have a horse so they would have to have lesson horses. I am a total beginner when it comes to Hunter Jumper. I know all of the basics but i want to learn to jump.

TIA

You might try Lesley Deutsch in Grass Valley. I worked there eons ago and I believe she has lesson horses. I’m not sure she still does H/J stuff (she was becoming more of a dressage rider), but she and her assistant used to. She has a really lovely farm. If she doesn’t, she may have a good recommendation for you.

I just checked her website and she does dressage, cowboy dressage, and just all around pleasure riding

Well you could drive down to Lincoln area. Sami Milo, Patty Ball, and Chris DeVere are up there. You can do a Google search for their barns. Sarah ballou used to be in Grass Valley but I’ve heard rumors she maybe moved and I’m not 100% where she went. I know for sure though that the three I named above have lesson programs.

A little further south from you in Roseville is Patriot Farms, trainer is named Jeri Lou. Not sure what kind of.lesson program she has though.

I would contact her and ask for suggestions. She may still do some H/J lessons, if you ask, especially since you will be just starting out.

There are a lot of nice barns if you trek down the hill toward Sacramento (Van Vleck, Rudy Leone’s, maybe whoever is based at Brookside right now, etc). Five Oak Farms is in Orangevale, and I think they may have a decent beginner program. Anyway, these places are probably further (and more expensive) than is worth your time (and parent’s) right now, but they are also places you could call and ask for suggestions.

There are several barns around Auburn but unfortunately I don’t know anything about them to be able to recommend one. I’m hoping someone here can.

Patty and Sami if she is still at Patty’s are in Penryn not Lincoln, so not too far down the hill from you. And Patty hosts George Morris every year which is a huge bonus!

Thanks everyone. I narrowed it down to Cavallo stables with Sami Milo and Black Bay Equestrian with Chris DeVere.
