Hackamore bridles

Would like to hear good and bad hackamore bristles.

A hackamore can go on any bridle so you should be able to use any bridle that you like.

There are lots of different types of hackamores and if you expand that to include the entire category of bitless bridles, there are even more. You need to ask a more specific question.

Want to keep it from moving cheek pieces. Need another bridle that fits better and has padded crown.

 Yeah, still not enough info to generate a useful response.

Do you already have a hackamore and you are just needing a bridle to put it on? Or are you needing a hackamore and bridle?

I’ve only really come across a couple of hackamore bridles that have the cheekpiece strap under the jaw and a nice padded crown - the Dy’on and the PS of Sweden. I like the PS of Sweden for my horse, the action is quite mild with their back-swept shanks. But with the Dy’on you can put on whichever hackamore nose you like best, if you need more options (which I guess technically you could do with the PS of Sweden too, it just comes as a complete bridle…).

After years of looking I finally found a Jumping Cavesson bridle sort of like my old, 45 year old or so, Jumping Cavesson bridle with the split cheek pieces. UNFORTUNATELY the reviews on the modern version are horrible, just plain horrible.

The modern one is the EquiRoyal Hackamore Jump Bridle (several sellers came up on Google) with the difference that my ancient one has a leather covered rope noseband instead of the flat leather noseband shown for the modern one.

I LOVED my old one, I used it on my first horse, an Anglo-Arab with plenty of go, go, go, I used it to ground train horses, I used it for first rides on the horses I trained to saddle, I used it up (my old one was not made of superior leather and it cracked on the crownpiece) and I finally found a saddler who could repair it so I am still using it sporadically. It is a modified side pull. I am going to use it again soon on an OTTB, using it as a “brandoon” when I introduce him to the curb.

IF you could find a saddler to make one for you, it might be what you are looking for, but with the reviews I saw I would not buy one of the modern ones.

Agree with MsRidiculous. My sensitive horse loves the PS of Sweden hackamore - enough whoa for me without pissing her off and comfortable for her with nice padded headpiece with lots of room for her sensitive ears and I really like how it sits on her head (and stays put) thanks to the jaw strap.

Good thread- I have been debating on the PS of Sweden vs the Dy’on and this is good timing. I would like to not have a frankenbridle but one that is meant to fit correctly for the hackamore.

Do you need it for showing? The endurance people often use hackamores and I’ve seen biothane bridles made specifically for hackamores.

Yes for showing. Anyone have a Dy’on hackamore bridle?
