My 16 yo cat is on medication for hyperthyroidism, Without it she drops weight like a rock, has a poor appetite, sleeps a lot, and her hair looks dull and mats easily.
With it she holds a little bit of weight, has a very good appetite, is annoyingly friendly but slightly senile, has shiny fur, but she sheds it in huge clumps and is going bald along her spine.
Anyone else?
She’s hyperthyroid, she’s on a medication to reduce the levels of thyroid hormone in her body. Can’t say I’ve commonly seen hair loss along the spine as a side effect either of the condition or methimazole
Is her med dose still high enough? My ht cat had lots of hair loss until we retested him and bumped the dosage up. Have had to increase dosage twice in 5 years.
Poot lost hair on her belly when her levels were too high. Once we got her thyroid levels controlled, her hair grew back.
