I have a bit of a difficult time putting my hair up and I’m curious if anyone else has similar problems. I have shoulder length, thick, wavy, poofy hair (seriously, you should see me in a humid climate). I always have my hair pulled up and back for work, and even outside of work; I can’t stand my hair in my face or flopping, so it’s never down, so it’s pretty much trained to lay back and up. So when I put my hair up for showing, it has a tendency to creep it’s way up my ears, regardless of how low I put my pony tail. It’s difficult to get my hair to sit half way (or more) down my ear to start with, and after a few minutes of riding, it’s bounced it’s way up to the top quarter of my ear. It looks ok-ish, but I know it could look better. Next show I’m going to try wetting it down a little to try and ‘hold’ it, but I’m still not sure that’s the answer. Anyone else have this problem?
I’d try gel instead of water. You said your hair poofs even more in humidity, and once the water starts to dry you might get that same reaction.
Good idea. Forgot to add that I’d put hairspray on top. That’s the only way to tame my hair for work; water to set it, hairspray to hold it. Though gel is a good idea too. Thanks!
If you cover your entire ear with your hair, and pull your hairnet tight would that work? That’s what I do and I have a similar hair situation and I am a nut about how my hair looks and feels under my helmet.
I have 2 suggestions!
When you put on your hair net, put it way down on your face (like where it’s basically touching out mouth). Once you have your helmet on, slide it up under the rim of your helmet above your forehead, but only as high as necessary to look right- that way your helmet is semi holding it down already and you shouldn’t have a much slippage upward.
If that doesn’t work- repeat with stud earrings. I have frequently heard people say that the earrings help the hairnet from sliding up.
Good luck!
It might. I guess I’d always worried that if I did that, and a chunk of it slide its way up and a smaller chunk stayed down below my ear that it would look ratty. But maybe I’m paranoid  I’ll have to try it.
I do the first suggestion!! Well almost. In the transient stage of putting my hair up, I hook the net on my nose; sorry for the visual, it’s quite amusing! Although I usually push the net up before I put my helmet on. So I bet that modification will help.
Great idea on earrings (if I can still get them in, haven’t worn earrings in several years ) I had always thought it would be my luck that the net would hook them and rip an earring out. But I never thought about anchoring the net to them. I’ll give that a try.
Cut it off :D;)
I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about it
So I have very thick, long, curly hair, and it was quite the process trying to get it to all stay neat and in place. I actually use two hairnets, and have found that that works the best for me.
I start off by how most people usually use a hairnet, starting it around mid-forehead and making a pony with the little excess hairnet pulled through the pony. After, I take the second hairnet, start it underneath the pony, and pull it forward until it’s also about mid-forehead. I take my helmet, start from the back, and pull it forward and on, and then slip it up a little to pull the hairnets under as they should be.
Hope that’s somewhat vaguely helpful
