Half Chap Repair?

I have one pair that needs to have a zipper replaced with hopefully a heavier duty one, and I would like to have more elastic added to another pair that was always too small as well as having the zipper turned around… Why would you place the zipper from bottom to top? Of course it comes unzipped where your knee bends!

Where do I go to have something like this done?

you might just want a little tap with a button sewn in where the ‘upside down’ zipper is. Most half chaps zip from bottom to top, but there is a little holder that keeps the zipper from unzipping.

I always take my half chaps to a leather repair shop that specializes in leather motorcycle gear, they do a great job.

Zipper replacement you can probably do locally at a good leather/shoe repair place. The one where you’d want to add elastic I’d considering sending to Beval.

I had the zipper replaced in a pair of nice half chaps that I had had for some years.
I regret spending the $. It would have cost only a little more to go buy a new pair, and that was replacing the zipper on only 1 of them.
A lot of this depends on the skill and cost of the repair place, but just something to think about…

Thanks for the feedback!

I will look at local leather repair places, but I have been considering that replacing them may be the easiest course of action.

My problem is I have giant calves and with only two brands that go that big. I was hoping to get the one way to snug pair to fit since I kept them too long and can’t return…

ETA: the ones that zip from bottom to top do have button cover piece, but the half chaps were still unzipping half way down my leg. It just sucks having calves that are apparently too big for riding, at least per manufacturers.

It’s getting harder and harder to get leather stuff repaired for a reasonable price. Last time I did this (replace the zippers on a pair of full grain 1/2 chaps) the guy looked at me like I had to heads and say “why don’t you just buy new ones?”. When I insisted he did repair them but for what he charged me, I could have gotten brand new ones. sigh I hate this “throw away-get new ones” mentality.
