Half Chaps for Terrains

I have worn Terrains for years. They provide sturdy and comfortable footwear for hours of farm labor and transition well for riding. However, since they are bulkier half chaps often don’t fit. I have one pair that fits, and those need to be given a proper burial. They are bleached, covered in paint, and smell terrible.

Any suggestions? I prefer smooth leather if possible.

I wear Terrains too, love them, and like you I prefer smooth leather. I had found a beautiful smooth leather pair of 1/2 chaps with leather covered, almost invisible velcro strips. They were great because they’d fit over hiking boots and Terrains. My niece loved them so much I gave them to her, and never found another like it. So I make do with suede velcro ones.

The half chaps that I found that fit over my Terrains are sadly not smooth leather. But they win for being inexpensive (comparably), very comfortable, and bonus machine washable. They are more fabric than leather.

I also use the Dublins. I have short legs but man calves, there’s not a lot of options. I am finding with a brand new pair of half chaps that I need to just be patient and let them stretch out a bit. But my old, broken in pair worked just fine over Terrains.
