Halloween Hunter Pace/ Share your Halloween Costumes Here!- UPDATE: WE WON!

Took my horse on his first hunter pace today- he was great!

For a horse who could be a total wimp in the show ring, he’s really learned to put on his big-boy-pants and hack out on trail! It was cold, windy, and wet, and he was a trooper popping over little jumps through the woods.

Unfortunately there were no photographers taking pictures of us on-course, but here he is before our ride.

Did I mention it was a costume contest, as well?

We were going for Rainbow Dash.

Did anyone else dress their horse up for Halloween this year?

ETA: Just found out we won the hunter pace! So proud of my man (and our teammates).

I wanted to go on one today near me, they were doing costumes too! But I had to sit it out. I’m so bummed! I’ve only done one hunter pace but also did a charity ride following the trail for a hunter pace. It was great fun and I can’t wait to do another! My horse is quite green but we went with a great group that really helped him realize there was nothing to worry about. I don’t want to show and I was searching what to do with my horse and I think we’ve found our path!

I dressed up my 5 year old OTTB for a halloween jumper derby two years ago and had so much doing it…

So, I mainly ride hunters but I got the opportunity in July to start riding western pleasure for a couple. So here I am showing costume at a WP show. I’ve yet to dress up a hunter/jumper event.

I was on a (not mounted) color guard team in high school, so I pulled out all my old gear.

Horrible photo of me.

What a trooper! I covered his face with the flag, twirled and threw it.

Great costumes! And yeah- I really enjoyed the hunter pace and would like to do more of them!

Here are some other costumes I did when I was younger for my barn’s Halloween parties:
“Fresh Paint”

“Space Cowboy”

I love the “fresh paint” one! Having a pinto myself, I might have to steal that one! ??

I did a hunter pace years ago with my now retired TB, we were a pumpkin. I went with two other people so we also had a ghost and bat in the group.

Last year our local hunt club had a hunter/jumper show and did a costume jumper class. I took my OTTB and he was my Indian pony and I an Indian chief, headdress and all! It was quite the tricky costume as the white feathers down the side of my face kept covering my eyes as I was trying to do my jump off

Love the Fresh Paint costume. Very cute.

I’ve seen Fresh Paint before, but not the detail of masking tape! Love it!

I did a costume class the other year with a pony of my trainer’s I was riding. Owing to our collectively diminutive size(s), we were the barn gnomes: you know, the ones we blame for missing spurs, gloves, curb chains, etc

I had made her a matching hat, but the pony vetoed that…

This is from a Halloween Hunter Pace a couple of years ago. My horse’s name is Batman, so he was Batman and I was Robin.

He wore black boots, black ear net, and a black saddle pad with a gold monogram. I also “spray painted” the Bat Symbol with Shapley’s show touch up on his rump. You have to look closely to see it, because the sun was on the wrong side of us for taking a picture.

The fresh paint idea is brilliant!

A group of us went to our first hunter pace this year. Our team of three took 7th out of 39 in the hill toppers.

We had an eclectic group. My Saddlebred Lacey as a Dog, with me as a Cat.

Our newest addition to the barn an OTTB skeleton with a day of the dead sugar skull rider
And a grey 1/2 arab painted like a zebra

We had a great time. Hope to do another some day.

We just did a “Haunted” Classic-style class that gave up to 10 extra pts for costume. I was Daenerys Targaryen with the black dragon from Game of Thrones. We even played the GoT theme music when I was going around the course. I will say it was a lot of fun jumping in a cape

No costume hunter paces around here so far, but here are a couple of pictures of costumes that we did for year riding club rally.
