Halter nameplate — which side?

Seems like I usually see these on the left side, but I wasn’t sure if there was a general rule for this or not. I thought I remembered reading about someone who put hers on the right side so if horse knocked handler, handler was less likely to get a body part scratched by the plate.

Search turned up where to put a martingale plate and where to get nameplates but nothing on which side for halter plates.

What do you do?

Left side.

I’ve never seen one anywhere but the left cheek.

Left side so I can read the name of the horse in case I forgot who I was leading-lol!!

I’ve never seen one anywhere but left.

left side so you can read it while you are leading the horse

Just another one of those things that happen on the “near” side

Agree- I’ve always seen them on the left or on both sides. Never just on the right.

Great! Thanks. I will go attach it right now.

unless you are putting it on and not really paying attention and end up putting it on the right side like I did - now I have to get another one so there is one on each side.

left. We also got a horse in with his name on both sides, and another with the nameplate on the left side - but upside down. How that wasn’t noticed is beyond me!

Heh … I managed to put mine on upside down this evening. In my defense, I had followed the instructions for attaching it and covered the plate with a piece of painter’s tape to protect it (me and a hammer can do some damage), so I couldn’t see the lettering, but yeah. That was special.

I’ll just say they’re a right b*tch to get back off again.

that’s an Australian halter

If the nameplate damages the horse’s skin you should try attaching it to the halter instead.
