We have a group going for the jumping competition and one friend is on crutches for a broken ankle. She has a handicapped parking pass, but I’m wondering how difficult is it going to be to get around the grounds? Any advice or tips to make things easier? Hoping we can at least nab a good parking spot!
I just got home after 3 wonderful days at WEG. There are handicapped shuttles in the parking lots and in the park. You may have to wait or have a parking official radio for one in the parking lot. When you go through the security area at the entrance ask a volunteer to either call for a shuttle or tell you where to wait for one. The volunteers are everywhere and wonderfully kind and helpful. Actually everyone we encountered there was cheerful, and helpful. The distances were far greater than I expected, even though, I was well-warned about how far apart everything was. I had a mobility scooter, and couldn’t have walked the distances. The Park is gorgeous, the signage is excellent, and I had an amazing time.
Do the shuttles take you in your chair:? Or will I have to transfer from my chair to a shuttle and strap the wheel chair on?? I will be there Thursday - Sunday to see the driving.
Thanks,
Diane
I saw some shuttles that they attach a ramp to that can handle an occupied wheelchair or scooter. There were also shuttles that would seat you and put the chair behind you if you can do that. You will need to have a volunteer radio to get the right shuttle for you. There is an area inside the main entrance where the shuttles wait for people. When you go through the security check ask your person to tell you where you need to go to wait and ask them to radio for the type of shuttle you need in case they are somewhere else in the park. When you are ready to leave, again have someone radio for the shuttle you need. There are shuttles that take you to the main gate from your venue and then you have to get in another line for the shuttle that will take you to your parking area or to your car. Every volunteer and every employee that I encountered couldn’t have been nicer. The park is set up with sidewalks/hard surface roads to almost everywhere. There are also many paths that are covered with those snap-together rubber bricks that worked fine for my scooter. There was obviously a great effort to accomodate the handicapped. I had a wonderful time and was enormously impressed.:yes:
Thanks so much I can’t wait to go and see everthing!!
