Handicapping the Dubai Cup

Could the past performance pages for the non-American horses be less helpful? Telling us he broke from the 2 post and then he finished 4th isn’t much to go on.

I know this isn’t the place for the betting talk, but I would like to try and bet the worlds richest race. I’m leaning towards Richards Kid with Baffert and Gomez. I figure a big money trainer and a big money rider with a horse that seems to try every time. But, he will need to decent pace to run at with his late closing style and you can’t tell who likes the lead by those useless PPs.

What exactly are you missing?
Most of the non-US horses have run their last several races at Meydan. Emirates racing will give all the split times in the world could need. But better still, they offer free replays of all their races… your own eyes over numbers on paper.
Vision d’Etat last ran in HK… the HKJC website will practically tell you what he had for breakfast that morning, plus they let you watch replays for free.
Twice Over hasn’t run since the BC, I’m sure you saw that race. His previous form is easily accessible.
Gitano Hernando prepped at Lingfield, the RP gives a detailed account of his race, plus again… there is no substitute for your own eyes over numbers on paper, so go watch the replay at Racinguk.com.

Many of the races are available on YouTube as well. To the American eye, the PP’s available in the DRF for non US races are a bit amemic. We are used to fractional times and running lines.

Here’s a link to At The Races. Go to the archive and listen to the last 1/2 hour of Wed’s show. Dick Powell is about as well versed in the international scene as anyone in the US and has worked for the Dubai Racing Club for years. He’ll be doing another segment tonight but I’m not sure the time.
