Handling a Tough Situation with a Well Bred Filly

I’m impressed by the Japanese trainers and vets and how they are handling this A.P x Careless Jewell filly, who did not get the cool disposition of her sire. The analysis of her motion and the attempts to correct it are very interesting. Some links are in Japanese but you can get the gist.

The difference being that this filly’s vets think that her unbalanced gait may well be upsetting her enough to keep her from racing safely. :yes:

It’s interesting that her owners paid $410,000 for that filly when she was a yearling. Especially since other offspring out of the mare by other very good sires have brought significantly lower prices.

They don’t have particularly good race records either, but hope springs eternal in the hearts of TB racing folks.

She certainly can run but it remains to be seen if she is temperamentally suited to race. I was impressed by the owner’s wise remarks after her dangerously out of control win.
I also wonder about the temperaments of her Dam’s other offspring? That may have played a part in their sales prices… I see they’ve stopped breeding Careless Jewel because of recurring colic.

Not normal for a horse though. Wonder if there is something neurological - not exactly a pedigree free of horses with neck issues.

Oh I agree, she definitely seems out of sorts.
The article on Vekoma just happened to pop up the same time I read your post. So was just sharing 😊

The paddling seems to start in the left shoulder. It’s rare for it to start so high up, isn’t it?
