Hands on Reproduction Courses?

My (long term) goal is to have a very small breeding farm, and I’d like to do as much of the breeding part of it myself. Collecting my (future) stallion, inseminating and ultrasounding. I am a veterinary technician and will be sitting for my license next year, so the medical part of it I’m ok with, and I have a firm grasp of the theory. BUT - tech school does not focus AT ALL on getting some hands on experience with equine repro. The practice I work with is small animal. And I’d love to keep this as my hobby. I live in FL – right near UF and about an hour north of Ocala, FL.

Any good programs to recommend?

My daughter took one of these classes and was pleased with it.

Oooooh - those look good! I wish they would open the ultrasounding course for CVTs as well as Veterinarians. I know you can only ultrasound your own mare – maybe that is the problem?

Yes, that is why. That being said, I went down to www.equine-reproduction.com in Oklahoma and did their one-on-one course and learned how to ultrasound. They also do embryo transfer courses, inseminating courses, etc…or you can make up your own one-on-one with them and concentrate on what you want to learn. Highly recommend them!

I hosted a reproduction seminar for Kathy and Jos - Equine-Reproduction a number of years ago and it was the best education I’ve ever had. Their knowledge and the way they go through it and also use a stallion and mare for demonstration and hands on, is just phenomenal! Super nice folks and really know their stuff - they are the best.

I’ve been through the Equine-Repro course twice. The only other one I know of in my area is through the University (UC Davis) - it is much more expensive.

I’d love it if they come to anywhere close to me! Plus some of their classes are CE approved, so that would be AWESOME. I’d have to pay for that anyway!
