Hang onto your credit cards, internet shoppers...

I just recently discovered half.com… had some CDs I needed to unload.

I just ventured into the sporting goods area of the site, and wouldn’t ya know it, they sell equestrian stuff.

Oh dear…

Dang … and here I thought you were finally coughing up the info on ordering COTH polos and jackets and boot bags and…

On a serious note, shoppers beware! Just this month, I was a victim of internet credit card theft! which I assumed would never happen. I have only ordered online from 3 reputable stores (J.Crew, Amazon, and one more like that). Found strange charges, i.e., 3 straight charges for the exact amount, $149, on consecutive days. They investigated and found that the charges had originated in Asia! And she said that it happens all the time - the hackers DO really pick up your account online, often as you type it in.
So - be careful out there.

Now what makes you think we would actually let such things cross the border into California?

Thanks Mom, that is why when I ebay I do a money order to the seller directly. It really doesn’t cost that much, I can get them at my Albertson’s grocery store and I am protected from the fraud. Now if they dispute my payment I probably do not have as much recourse but I do keep receipts and records.

This is too big a world sometimes for me. All too risky at times.

“The older I get, the better I used to be.”

And even if we let them across the border, you couldn’t afford them after you paid your light bill.

Bad Erin!

size 6 mens, 8 1/2 wide womens. Worn for 10 (or so) riding lessons. Some scratches on boots, but lining is in excellent condition and the boots are clean.

(They forgot to mention that they have washed most of the blood off…)

Man ERIN! I was doing soooo well today too! I was very bad yesterday though…broke down and bought the cool new Kerrits riding tights, a pair of deerskined, crochet-backed gloves, and a apir od Ariat half chaps…I am so not right! Funny thing? I went in looking for a girth and a pair of leathers! Didn’t have a girth in my horse’s size (46") and couldn’t afford the really nice leathers! So, I spend more money on things I hadn’t intended to buy!

Thanks a lot ERIN!

And can you imagine the debt they would rack up if they had to drive anyplace to get 'em?

Oh no, Mom! Does this mean that when I get my credit card statement I’ll find out that 27 Asians are now the proud owners of faded green denim COTH caps?

What exactly is this place, Erin? Looks to be some good deals, but it’s not all used stuff, or is it? Half.com- does it mean everything is half price?

Merry - Could be! But they passed on the skunk helmets and rust breeches, I hear.

Oh, Erin, Erin, Erin… tsk tsk. You have much to learn.

I think the meat and potatoes of Half.com is books and CDs, although they also have videos/DVDs, electronics, sports equipment, etc. Most of it is used stuff.

The idea is that everything is (around) half price… doesn’t always work out to be that way. For instance, I have been trying to sell a copy of Dishwalla’s “Pet Your Friends” for $.75 for two weeks now. Darn, no takers!

Essentially, you ask whatever price you want for your books, CDs, etc. If it sells, Half.com kicks in $1.75 for shipping (on CDs, anyway, I haven’t sold anything else), and takes a commission.

The selection of CDs is pretty impressive, and you can usually get things for a few bucks less than you’d pay new… they’re sometimes even still sealed (promo copies). I haven’t browsed the books or movies much yet.

Sadly, after my initial excitement of seeing horse stuff, I browsed through and didn’t see much that stirred my interest. I’d say e-Bay sill rules for used horsey stuff.

Yes Merry, it will!!!

Half.com is an Ebay company that very recently opened. It is described as a “shopping mall” type experience for businesses that wish to sell overstock inventories without using the auction format through ebay. It costs X amount of dollars to list there per month.

Oh yes, should I also say that ebay now prohibits links to a seller’s website from an aution page…which on many occasions is the sellers store selling closeouts and overstocks at a reduced price.
