I hadn’t thought of iron, but that is a great idea as well. Guess we have a lot to check out when we go to HD! Thank you.
OP… I see you are not listing a location but there is only one address in the US that is on your sign… I tired to send you a PM that you might want to remove the photo attachment showing the sign
A beautifully painted, weathered, carved farm sign --well, some people think those look nice on a wall in a house …or a restaurant –
I’m sure. And if they think that… they should buy one, not take someone else’s!!
I make signs like that and something of that size would be typically hung from either an RE style post setup as someone mentioned or from a decorative metal sign bracket attached to a post. It’s certainly not a huge job to use either method. For the former, you’d need to do a half-lap joint between the post and the cross-piece to insure it’s strong. The latter method is much easier, but has added cost for the decorative sign bracket. Here’s an example of a bracket:
Sign stealing is nuts! Like the owner won’t recognize it in a restaurant???
OP your sign is beautiful!
@Lucassb :love-struck: I now have Sign Envy.
That is gorgeous/droolworthy!
@Foxglove 's cautionary tale make me even more determined to get that slab of concrete for mine.
Damned thieves can herniate trying to lift it!
to hang the sign use quick links with Locitite 262 on the threads . For disassembly requires heating to 482°F
Agree…preferably stainless steel, too.
Not surprised. People will steal anything not bolted down (with locktite).
Thank you, @2DogsFarm and @Palm Beach ! I am thrilled with how it came out. It came from the fabulous BriarHill SignWorks, for those who are curious. They are amazing craftsmen!!
And good idea about the Loctite, Jim and Clanter!
That is a stunning hanging bracket, by the way. Did you make it??
No, that’s a very common commercial sign bracket…I scarfed the photo from a sign maker supply house, as a matter of fact. These are purpose made for the task and very sturdy. They are especially suitable for “modern” signs that are made from HDU (high density urethane) which has all but replaced wood products in the sign business these days.
Here many signs are plasma cut metal, painted any color/s.
Ours is one of those, the kids in the shop class in the local high school made it.
They looked for figures on the internet, composed it, programmed the plasma cutter and cut and then welded them together.
They did a great job of it and all they charge is a donation to the shop program.
They use those donations for materials and to travel to competitions where they show what they made during the year, some impressive, complicated projects.
For those looking for signs, check with your high school, they may have such programs and can make you a sign and even the brackets to hang it with.
here is a place where you could buy all the parts to make that bracket … well actually you might end in up fabrication as the twisted rope is in 20 ft pieces, but the scroll work and other parts are individual
I don’t do welding, clanter, so I wouldn’t be inclined to build a bracket that I can buy for a very reasonable cost. I subcontract the internal frames for HDU signs to a local welder. But I thank you for that source…I didn’t have that one captured to-date. I pretty much am sticking to the CNC and paint work for the moment… 'can’t bite of more than I can chew with a relatively new business.
Ah, thanks @Jim_in_PA . Very good to know. I really like it and might try to track it down, actually. If you happen to get a moment to post the link, I would appreciate it!
It arrived!!! It’s gorgeous!! Perhaps you need a hand hanging it :D.
Just beautiful. Came out perfectly!! You dreamed it into life
You might consider investing in a second sign that says private property (unless you are a boarding barn). Otherwise you might get people coming in to see about riding, lessons, boarding etc.
