Hanging up a farm sign

THAT ^

We have a big, wide, bumpy cattleguard you have to drive over, several signs on the gate and on both sides of the gate.

“Private road, no thru traffic”, “No trespassing, trespassers will be prosecuted”, “posted”, “video surveillance” and the emblem of the security company.

When we have to leave the gate open waiting on someone, we have to stop trespassers in the mile driveway to headquarters regularly, the last one we caught from MN?
Previous one from IA, said the GPS directed him there, in a big RV.

I am sure the GPS doesn’t has anything to do with him reading “no trespassing” signs and still trespassing.
He was complaining GPS didn’t tell them it was not paved and a dead end road.
Guess driving for over a mile on a dirt road didn’t tell him either?

They don’t only not respect signs, they will stand there and argue.
Those are exactly the kind of public we have no trespassing signs for.

Don’t underestimate the stupidity of some of the public.
Be proactive with security if you are not a public venue.

We don’t have our farm any longer, so I don’t have any pics, but we used the same 4x4 steel we used to frame stall grills to hang our sign. I believe it was anchored in concrete the same as a fence post would be. I’m not sure of the height, but the lengths of steel were pretty long, so we just cut it to the length wanted and then welded on a cross post, painted it with Tremclad and attached hooks for the signs the chain attached to.

OP, if you want to dress up the wood post, maybe consider a decorative post sleeve or wrap? They have ones that look like stacked stone, architectural columns, logs, etc.

Wow, never knew about those. Thanks!

I’m a Realtor, and my signs are about 2x3. I hang all my signs from a wooden post/arm. I would suggest contacting an agent in your area who you see hanging their signs from wooden posts and finding out who they use. I have a “post guy” who I call up for all my listings and he goes out and digs the hole, installs the post, and then hangs my signs. I am sure you local version of this could work with you to make sure it was exactly what & where you want!
