Hanoverian "A" line/ABSATZ

I tell you, it’s rare that one gets such a consistent response from COTHers about any subject, so I’m impressed. And I like that various sons/daughters of Akzent
and Absatz are so much alike; obviously these two stallions were quite prepotent for certain things.

So I’m sold! Now all I have to do is buy some DeNiro semen, put it in a tank and wait 2-3 years for the “mare”, who is currently only 2 mos old, to grow up!

Aren’t breeders pathetic…:D? Or is it just me?

I like the A line a lot, as just like everyone else says, it really comes through. My best broodmare is out of an Arkansas/Akzent II mare and I also owned her half sister. Both very typey mares with beautiful faces and presence. Yes, both hot, but in a good way. Both mares have had foals from a wide range of stallions and always the type comes through, super pretty, big eyes, lots of presence. Even the filly by Don Frederico had a gorgeous face. I bred both mares to Wolkentanz II who is himself linebred on Absatz and both resulting foals turned out really nice. One is a bit overly sensitive but both are a gorgeous type. I have heard that sometimes the A line horses can be a bit steep in the shoulder and soft in the pasterns though this is not a trait I have found has come through when I bred 4 times to Absatz…?

More on Abundance
I rode at Skyline Farm with Al Steiert, Abundance’s owner. Abundance was an amazing horse to grow up around. I saw him do a little bit of everything with Al. He hacked out and fox hunted with all of us kids without a fuss. He drove, he was a talented jumper and just take a look at not again’s web site to see some dressage photos.

I was lucky enough to ride many of his youngsters and as I recall they were all easy to break, had a good work ethic and had good personalities. They definitely wanted to please. My one regret is that I never owned one of Abundance’s foals.
I had an Abundance gradauther by Grundstein 1. I still own her daughter. Excellent horses. A very knowledgable German horse trader who had nothing to gain by saying so, said, “Abundance is the best stallion in NA” at that time. But, there are lots of A line horses that are not Abundance. In general they are well looked upon to be in the dam’s pedigree. This does not mean its not good to have in the sire line as well. I just don’t know on that one.

What a timely thread!

I just found a stunning jet black with chrome Hanoverian stallion for a client of mine that I will be standing for her. He is by Earl (Escudo) out of De Nada and has Absatz in the 4th. His movement is light and animated and jaw dropping and he powers over a 5’ jump like its not even there. Her trainer is a GP level dressage trainer and we are all rather excited to see where this guy ends up and how far he can go. We heard he had an excellent work ethic and thats exactly what we are finding. When the trainer comes into the barn, his eyes dont leave her - he seems so happy that he is going to be going out and working soon and once he understands what is being asked of him, he tries his heart out to please her. I am SO impressed with what I have seen thus far. Nice to know that Absatz is responsible for his terrific temperament! I’d get another one in a heartbeat

Yep, had an Arkansas/Abrupt/Abglanz mare who was my heart horse. Just lost her this May . Fabulous, fabulous temperament and lovely elastic gaits. I have three of her daughters that are absolutely treasured. Two by a Welsh B stallion, one by a Holsteiner/Swedish WB stallion. All have her great temperament and great gaits.

I was told A-line Hanoverian meant “amateur- line” Hanoverian. Every horse has a mother of course, but for the most part all the Arkansas offspring I have run across had great temperaments.

My mare has Absatz 4 generations back (through Abundance). She is half arabian and about as much of an outcross as you can have from Absatz’s Hanoverian lines. Yet I swear you can STILL see his influence in her-- especially in her head/expression. Talk about some prepotent genes!

I had a Danish warm blood with Absatz on both side who had the most perfect temperament one could imagine. One of the other postings here captures it perfectly, very rideable with a different presence in the ring

Interesting article about Alabaster (to me the embodiment of that A line type) and the Abglanz/Absatz horses:

Gorgeous!!

I had 2 Wolkentanz II foals out of an Anhaltiner (Akzent II son; Absatz grandson) mare. So closely bred to Absatz and much like Kyla’s foals that she mentioned.

The Anhaltiner mare was a bit hot and spooky, but still scored a huge score at her MPT and was very well rounded (9s in jumping, 7-8s in all other aspects, score 8.1). The filly is now 3 and a nice horse, good under saddle, more typey than her mother, maybe due to the A line line breeding. Not spooky at all. The colt unfortunately died as a yearling, but he was stunning.

I also owned a G line mare that, when you looked at her pedigree, she was 16% Absatz blood through Abundance and also Weltmeyer line breeding. Lovely mare whom I lost too soon. She was the foundation mare in my breeding program. The beautiful Absatz type definitely came through on her.

And I have a yearling grand daughter of this mare who I also line bred back to the A line, this time the cross was through August der Starke (an Argentinus son). Thus, more Absatz being added back into the mix.

Now that’s an A-line horse. They sure have a stamp to them that’s for sure.

I think my mare by Alabaster is strong in this “type”, her pedigree is 19% Absatz. Her filly this year is by Wolkentanz II, also same % of Absatz and she’s really looking nice with fabulous uphill movement and topline.

From allbreedpedigree, it says:

“Absatz, is one of the few sires who had an enormous impact on Hanoverian breeding after the Second World War. He endowed his foals with light, free action, superb conformation and an unparalleled disposition, which made them extremely easy to train. In this way, he gave the modern Hanoverian characteristics and incomparable Absatz type from which this breed still profits in the second and third generation even today.”

Would love to hear from others with more knowledge, too. My foal that will be born next year has Absatz on the sire’s side also.
Nice photo of absatz on his allbreed page http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/absatz

I loooove my Alabaster mare, she’s gorgeous and very, very sweet but yes, she is reactive. She is so ‘stamped’ too, that head and chest and front end you can’t miss, she is very compact, has a big long trot.

I wouldn’t breed her to anything hot. Planning on putting her most likely to VOICE this season, so there will be double up on the A line through De Niro but far enough back that I am not bothered. I would love to breed her to Quando Quando but the A would be way too much.

What a dual use line. Thunder du Van Zuuthoeve (BWP) has quite a few children jumping at Spruce Meadows this week. He is an Argentinus son.

We have enjoyed many direct descendants of Absatz via Abundance as well as those coming through Waldaire’s dam line. Our licensed son combines both names quite successfully. This youngster is schooling everything for grand prix dressage calmly and cheerfully at age seven, has reached a very nice height of 16.1 hands and is a superlative jumper. Who could ask for anything more!
