Hanoverian G-line- Comments?

I too was lucky to find Grundstein standing at Winterwood in Unionville, PA. I had many foals from him…my stallion Grande Saber included. Saber met an early death at 10. His produce a high percentage of premium foals and those offspring have ranked in the top of their fields.

Here are a few:
Grande Celeste - Grande Saber/Grundstein out of Zenobila/LeCapo reitred sound and happy from her Grand Prix dressage career at WPB this year. Her owner/trainer sent me the most moving letter describing how Celeste impacted her life. She still had “it” as she floats around the ring. George Williams called her a " champagne mover" as he watched her at 5 months.

Grand Affair is one of the most celebrated hunter broodmares of recent times. She was undefeated at a 3 year old. She won the Upperville Broodmare Posh Trophy 4 times retiring the trophy for the first time since it was established. She produced several successful hunter breeding and IHF champions. My Saber daughters have won additional breeding championships at advanced ages for the past few years …I decided to see what the older girls would do…so far …I have 4 PHSA broodmare championships in the last 3 years!

My experience with the Grundstein line is that they have great scope and power and seek to please. They are unusually smooth and cat-like jumpers…they float…they lift from the withers with incredible ease. See pics of Grande Levitcus ( a Pilot grandson doubled back to the G-line) They learn and remember everything. Be careful what you ask of them!

These are just a few of my own program. The G-line horses are most rewarding of the lines I ever bred!

TWF: That youngster you have free jumping has quite impressive form! Thanks for the pics!

You can see our filly at our website - www.signaturesporthorses.com. She is pretty petite (may have come from her dam, who I believe was only 15.2h), but mighty. She is out of a TB mare, btw. Still green as a gourd due to our lack of time but she has been nothing but easy since day one.

PP - thanks! We just took some new video this past week and I’m hoping to get it uploaded/created today!

JY used to carry the frozen of Granulit, until he was exported from Germany to South Africa. Old page here:

She bred a very nice filly by him:

My Quinar fillies have both Hanoverian E line (Einglas) and W line (Wendekreis/Ferdinand) on the dam side. This cross is consistently producing a high quality foal. Both of these Hanoverian lines have a history of producing top international level jumpers.

The above in response to favorite Hanoverian lines…tons of jump and good minds.

I’m generalizing, but I like ‘D’ the best for (sometimes) versatility, (usually) movement, and rideability, especially mixed with the Hohenstein/Caprimond Trakehner influence and/or ‘A’ for more rideability, plus type and beautiful topline (especially Akzent II). This is one reason why I initially chose to breed to Donarweiss. ‘R’ is also good for type and rideability and I love the classic ‘D’/‘R’ crosses. I haven’t tried ‘S’ yet, but want to. I don’t go as nuts for B, F, G, and W. Everything else falls somewhere in the middle. Of course, every line has its strengths and weaknesses. There are fantastic horses in every line.

Selah- love Granulit… Very classic looking to me. Glitter Girl reminds me of the first horse I ever bought as a yearling. Lovely mare.

My stallion has that magical Graphit - Gotthard combo on the bottom. Great capacity to work, smart, and loyal. They do not suffer fools gladly, but are so sweet with kids and the handicapped. I have a yearling stallion candidate from him out of a Contender - Spitzweg - Grand Royal mare. Very pretty boy, extremely uphill and rhythmic in every step. Also jumps everything in sight.

A close friend of mine has an Ommen mare out of a rather famous Hano mare named Geisha. Geisha was Hano of the year in eventing. Amazing mare who was by Garibaldi I. She’s left 2 daughters to carry on her line. The Ommen mare being one and a Watch Me mare being the other. Both have had very successful careers in the eventing world though the Ommen mare is one I’d love to get into the jumper ring. She has been very slow to mature, has a face only a mother could love and can jump a house. Very cat like off the ground and can pack a beginner around one day and then her owner at Prelim/Intermediate the next. I’m a fan of the G-line.

I think there is a pretty distinctive G-line face. Personally I LOVE it.

I also have an older gelding who is G-Line from Graf Goetz … and have worked with many G line over the years. I have not had one that I did not like to ride and truely enjoy. I think they have a great temperment and have just enought “flash”. I like the old school look I am not a fan of the smaller looking horses.

Thanks…his other siblings have that kind of talent too! Levi is at Hunter’s Peak now. He’s sired some really nice young horses…he’s standing to a nice group of mares this year too.

Absolutely LOVE the G line. Still have my 29 year old Hanoverian stallion, ES Gouverneur. He’s healthy and happy with his little mini companion, Treat. Have a Grand Cru brookmare who produces wonderful riding horses. Have kept several Gouverneur daughters for my breeding program. Can’t beat them!

My jumper was G-line, he was by a son of Gotthard. He was absolutely amazing. He had 2 WEF circuit championships, and won almost everywhere we went, Hamptons, Lake Placid, Vermont, Saratoga, the only place we didn’t, but we still got a blue was Spruce Meadows!! That was just before he was retired. We had him for 15 years, until he died last summer at my parents’ farm. Here are photos:

My sister also had 2 jumpers that were G-line: Genius 79 who was in the Olympics, and Grand Point who won countless jumper classes, many in Spruce Meadows.

We loved them all, Genius was a bit ornery, and actually bit a chunk out of my sister’s arm when she was righting his feed tub…Merlin was cranky when we first got him, but once he got used to my attention, he became the biggest ham. He would even beg for treats. Grand Point was super sweet as well.

Our family felt very fortunate to have these 3 amazing horses. I am always searching for G line horses. They were all so smart, and competitive, an amazing combination. My feeling is that Merlin was 1 in a billion, and that unforunately I will never find one like him again. :frowning:

I noticed you bred your Grand Cru mare jumper last year, Chinook GCF. I have read that Grand Cru daughters can be really good jumpers. Would you mind sharing a bit about Greta?
Have you bred her to a jumper before and if so how did it turn out?

Thank you so much for sharing your story and pictures! How lucky for you to have so many amazing horses in your family.

Chinook GCF is the first jumper bred foal I have from Greta. Greta is in the AHS Jumper Breeding program, having scored two 10s on her MPT (jumping) in Germany as a youngster. But she also has spectacular movement so I wanted to breed to a stallion who produces BOTH jumping and dressage - so I chose Chequille Z This year Great is bred to Daddy Cool - again a stallion who produces both jumping and dressage. We absolutely LOVE Chinook and she is quite the mover. She’s also HUGE!

I LOVE my G-line horses. I had a huge Gonzo son who had terrific movement and jump with the best temperament. His career was unfortunately limited by EPSM but he has a wonderful forever home. I have a smaller Gonzo granddaughter that I’m just starting under saddle now and she’s a piece of cake–beautiful movement and jump, dead dead quiet, super desire to please. My favorite broodmare is by Goldschlaeger and she has produced numerous winning A show hunters and jumpers. She’s a sweetheart and very quiet. She’s also huge and passes on her fantastic movement and jump, but she does have that G-line head.
