Happy Anniversary!!!!!

I can’t believe it’s been a year since my mare and I stood trembling during the AVH hunt clinic! Last season was the most amazing year of my riding life. This year, I brought my new pink pony (OK, he’s most definitely a horse, albeit pink). I didn’t need another, I didn’t need another… Oh well ~ I’m in love!

This guy spent the last couple of years doing mostly trail rides, and a bit of ring work. He’s still somewhat green, but smart, willing and OOOH so cute. Did I mention he was pink? I can’t believe my hunt string is now up to threeeee! Ok, so he hasn’t officially hunted yet, but I expect him to hunt with as much joie de vie as he seems to do everything else with.

I am so very glad that I stayed on that first day. 30 years of riding and I finally found my calling! Gotta hit the hay, as we’re Roading bright and early in the morning! We finally have a break in the heat, and I intend to take full advantage of it!

Who’s with me?

Congrats!! It’s funny how an alarm clock set for a morning to road hounds or hunt doesn’t ring soon enough but most other mornings it comes too soon! Enjoy your ride!

I’m test riding a new horse this week. She has a solid resume’ but no hunting in her past so we’ll see how things go. Heading out with friends at 8:00 to give her ride #3 though she won’t meet any hounds until Wednesday.

Pink?

So what do you call a pink horse? Photos please.

My tried and true hunter is still recovering from a torn ligament. I’m going to have an exciting start to the hunt season getting some of my youngsters going. Won’t be able to go roading until the 14th of August. Got to get them started schooling on coops real soon here.

SLW - You said it! My eyes are open, and body awake long before that early morning alarm goes off (which I’m sure hubby is thrilled to not have to hear). How did your ride go this morning???

Painted Wings - Sorry to hear about your made hunter. How long has the ligament been healing? Also… How many youngsters do ya have lined up??? We were lucky enough to organize weekly trail rides throughout the summer at each other’s farms, so we’re all ready to go. The only thing that was missing was the sweet smell of sweaty hound!

Oh yeah - Pink… as in Strawberry Roan. I can’t figure out how to add pics here. There’s a hint of him in my blog post today:)

Awww! I love me a strawberry roan! My first hunt horse–after graduating from my pony–was a strawberry roan–loved her!! She was so handy in the hunt field! I am always on the lookout for another roan… and Happy Anniversary!

The little mare did very well. This was a quiet ride with no speed but I was able to ask her many questions and see how she answered. Her background is ranch work and Extreme Cowboy competition at a nice level with a pro-rider. A beginning adult has owned her the past two years and they fessed up she’ll do so much better with an experienced rider.

A cheerful, vocal and loud bassett hound got on us today and she did not honor him with a looky-look or snort. I like that. Ditto the German Shepards barking out from behind a vine covered fence at the lake property. Baby steps.

The next three days are forecast to be 97 degrees with the appropriate “danger” heat index. I’ll have to ride before 10:00 to beat the worst of the heat.

Now, off to go see for myself what a pink horse is all about!
