I rode there in high school. Every Friday we would take the bus to the end of the line and then walk from Irving to Montrose. Learned how to ride there. In the summer I would go out and hang around waiting and hoping for Roy to say that I could take a group out on a trail ride in the forest preserves.
Did you make it to the reunion several years ago?
Those were good times back then.
No, I did not make the reunion. Maybe there will be another?
I rode there in high school too. I finished my senior year as a working student there in fact. Good memories!
I have a horse now who reminds me of Try Jake. He is a schoolmaster, and is perfect! I would have loved to ride Try Jake, but hardly anyone ever did. I am sure he would have been a perfect lesson horse. Wonderful training and the best manners. My filly reminds me of Mickey, personality wise. She is very full of herself!
I remember Happy Day well
I spent 10+ years there leading rides and growing up. I have fond memories of Happy Day.
I hope others stumble across this board - Carol we have to have known each other.
Here’s another group that has a lot of connections to Happy Day Stables. Maybe you will find friends there.

Anyone ride there in the late 60s, early 70s? I don’t know how old I was when I there for a few weeks one summer, and fell off in a lesson and got scared and stopped riding. However, I must have picked up some sort of a horse-loving virus, because I’ve had horses most of my life now. Got over my fear enough to eventually event. Whenever I hear the Carly Simon song “Anticipation” it brings back those days at Happy Day.
i got to have try jake in his later life----my girls and i rode him with "limited " showing—he was QUITE a horse !!!----norma and roy(deceased) are personal friends-----my ex-husband dick, rode there when he was in hich school—was at happy day many times —visiting from colorado in the 60’s and 70’s.

I remember, there were 2 really good jumpers at the stable- Terry and Paul. They used to compete together in horse shows.
