Hard feed for 2.5yo

I need help selecting a hard feed for a 2.5yo warmblood youngster. Shared pasture with grass/ alfalfa hay. Ideas? Growth feed ( Purina, Nutrena, Triple Crown easy to get here), Ration balancer and forage pellet? Goal is to ensure nutrition requirements met for growth.

That depends entirely on his calorie requirements. Easy keeper? Go with a ration balancer. Average to hard keeper? A quality performance horse feed from your manufacturer of choice. At 2.5 years of age, his nutrient requirements for growth are negligible; he should be fed like any similar adult horse.

what’s he eating now, and how’s his weight?

A ration balancer is always my first choice, 1-3lb depending on the product and his weight, but usually 1.5-2lb for the ones you mentioned. I prefer TC because of generally higher nutrient levels. Adding a cup or so of alfalfa pellets makes it easy to alter calories quickly, but if you’re reguarly adding 4-5lb, then it will be cheaper to use a good lower NSC feed, and TC Sr is my preference for that

I feed Triple Crown 30. If possible, I always use ration balancer with fast growing WBs.

thanks! this is helpful. Currently on Triple Crown 30 and a few pounds of SR Gold. I just love the TC products and wanted to make sure I am on the right track.

I love this product. He is on that now. I will continue and add calories as needed.
