Hard swelling on Mare's udder -update good news

One of my mares has a hard swollen area of one side of her udder. I noticed it because she has been swishing her tail as if something was irritating her. The teat itself is not swollen.

The area that’s swollen is pretty hard. I don’t see any open wounds. I gave her some bute tonight and put cortisone cream on the bump. As it isn’t immediately life threatening, I’ll have the vet out early next week but wanted to see if anyone had an idea of what it is.

**update, took her to the vet today. The area of skin was already detaching by itself so he removed it. He hasn’t seen anything like it but it’s not cancerous. **.

Not lactating, we can assume? Heat? Photos? most likely bug bite turning into something but can’t say much without at least getting a look at it.

(May-June seems to be mare booboos on tatas month…)

This only happens in 1 in 40,000 mares, but I ended up with one with a malignant tumor in her udder. If you can’t find an immediate solution, please advocate for a biopsy. I spent a ton of money trying to diagnose/treat before we finally got an answer.

The picture would be black swelling on top of black udder. I had to get under her with a flashlight and my glasses on to get a good look. The mare is a 16 year old maiden, tested positive for IR but not Cushings. She is drylotted, low starch feed, IR supplement and has been sound since earlier this year(chronic laminitis).

She has gotten super tail swishy in the past but would seem to be better after cleaning all the sweaty, cruddy bits and applying ointment. I haven’t seen anything like this before.
