Harmony Farms dry indoor cat food?

Has anybody fed their cats Harmony Farms dry food? I saw this brand for the first time today at Big Lots and was pretty impressed with the ingredient list, the food seemed like a great deal for the price. Thoughts on the brand? Should I try it for my guys? Thanks!

Around here, it’s sold in the grocery stores, and that usually indicates a food that isn’t as high quality as that you can get if you purchase your food in other places. I just did some checking on line and, for grocery store dry food, it looks half-way decent. There is grain, quite a bit of it, and that always turns me off about a cat food. But, at least that grain is not corn, soy or glutens. They say it’s “all natural” but they don’t say organic. I’m not quite sure what that means. Most stuff is natural, at some point.

I know that cost, and sometimes availability, can be a factor. If that’s the case, I would probably say that this is one of the better of the grocery store products. I’m going to link you to a page where they compare their food to other cat foods. You’ll notice that they don’t include any of the grain-free foods that are sold elsewhere in this comparison. This food probably wouldn’t hold up so well in comparison to them. http://www.harmonypetproducts.com/products/cats_dry_chicken.cfm

I am also one of those proponents of wet food over dry. But, because I have one cat that will only pick at her wet food and one who will go on a strike against it every once in a while, I understand that, sometimes, you do have to feed dry. I would say, however, that it is better if you can feed one of the higher quality foods available these days, be it wet or dry.

Thanks Louise! I feed dry food to my boys freely and they split a can of wet food once a day - I’d love to feed them mostly wet and a little dry, but one of my cats has chronic colitis and that’s just not possible. I’ve done everything – including everything my vet has recommended and a raw food diet – to try to help my boy but nothing works. The dry food and 1/2 a can combo is the thing I’ve found that leads to the least number of accidents. :frowning: Anytime I see a new food that has good ingredients I research it because I wonder if it could be the thing that cures him. The price was kind of a relief for if I do go to try it, it gets pricey trying find something to help him!

hi there- I registered specifically to reply to this post…

we fed our cats harmony farms for years and they LOVED it. it started to become a little scarce in our grocery store, so I would travel to different stores within the state to buy it. this summer, I found it deeply discounted, and bought all of the non-expired bags I could find.

according to the company website, they are no longer producing the brand. if it turns out your cat likes it and it helps to manage the colitis, I’d recommend blue buffalo. we just started on it + mixing it with the old food. a lot of the ingredients are the same and they haven’t turned up their noses; I suspect it’s very similar.

I just wanted to make sure I let you know about the company closing before your cats were “hooked”.

best of luck.

Thanks, 4chloe
