Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels close to the Farm Show Complex? I’d like something a little nicer than the Red Roof where we have stayed before… Thanks in advance.
There is nothing very exciting: http://www.hotels.com/de1718170/hotels-near-pennsylvania-farm-show-complex-harrisburg-united-states-of-america/?dateless=true&PSRC=G21&rffrid=sem.hcom.US.google.003.03.04.s.kwrd=ZzZz.sJxPdPhtI.0.46848376839.1020w9o38457.d.c&gclid=Cj0KEQjwx4yfBRCt2rrAs-P5vtkBEiQAOdFXbYmYsy3Whav1DIQ38Xuf1vdIyjKfYtLDNoNR1GRGqFQaAn0X8P8HAQ But there are some yummy little restaurants around.
I always liked the Hampton Inn that was an exit south IIRC.

Agree- The Hampton Inn is close and very nice. I always try to stay there.
Harrisburg Hilton might work if you’re looking for something a little nicer. It’s less than 10 minutes from the arena and has a lot of horse people the week of indoors.
I live in the Harrisburg area and agree with the recommendations for the Hilton and Hampton Inn. It can be a pain to find alternatives because the area can get… Sketchy but you also don’t want to be too far of a drive.
Also seconding ideayoda’s comment about restaurants - there’s some lovely, interesting options if you do a little Yelp research prior and want to experience more than typical fair-type (re: fried ) food for a meal or two.
Thank you, NurseHorsey. If we can avoid the fried food for dinner, that would be a miracle and a blessing. Onward to Yelp!
If you look on Eisenhower Boulevard, Lindle Road, or Friendship Drive/Tecport Drive, there are quite a few options. The Sheraton on Lindle is very nice from what I’ve seen. There are a couple of Hiltons over there. Union Deposit Road also has some nice ones-- Holiday Inn Express and a few others. All of these would be around 10 minutes from the Farm Show complex.
I live in the area and don’t have any experience staying in the hotels, but I often end up at them for trainings and conferences and such. It seems like 75% of the area’s hotels are clustered in the above-mentioned area, just southeast of the city.
There’s a brand new Staybridge Suites right beside the farm show complex…literally walking distance to the grounds.
There’s also a Spring Hill Suites off Progress Ave. that’s pretty new.
Also, I would avoid the downtown hotels because parking is a PITA, especially if you are driving a truck. The “suburban” hotels have giant parking lots and because the highway is right beside the complex it’s probably a faster commute than dealing with red lights in the city. If you get anything off 81 from Progress Ave north through you’re golden…Paxtonia, Linglestown, and Manada Hill exits are all close enough with decent hotels.
Staybridge is across the parking lot? Wow. No sleep, for sure, but that sure would save having to carpool and coordinate schedules. Unless there is a giant fence and drainage ditch and train tracks to wander across for the early morning trek.
Nope, no obstacle course to navigate between the Staybridge and the complex! I know they book up quickly though!
I work at the Hilton Garden Inn over at Harrisburg East over the weekends… I’ll give ya free breakfast It’s maybe a ten minute drive to farm show complex. Close to many restaurants (walking distant from Tomato Pie which is pretty tasty). We have several equine enthusiast stay during the farm show events.
