Caper, he was thoroughly vetted several times and looked over before but nothing was found. Took a really excellent vet to look outside the box
WildLittleWren, me, too… my friend ended up buying my schoolmaster from me and it was a complete love match. Sadly he passed from colic less than two years later. So…she is actively looking again and trying to find another good boy like my/her schoolmaster.
My girl was a terrible bolder, spook spin and bolt. The first few months I had her, she wouldn’t go into the back half of the arena and would bolt constantly if you tried to make her. I thought she lacked confidence. She also jigged at the walk. So we took it all the way back to just walking and halting and waiting and trying to get her mind on me and not what was going to eat her. I didn’t show her for the first year she was with me, because I also did a lot of ground work with lots of praise–taught her to self load in the trailer, helped her to learn to stand for the farrier; even learning to stand tied–all gave her confidence. It took her though until she reached the FEI levels that she largely stopped spooking and bolting in the ring and then there was no fear over that.
Good questions, Hobbs.
i can understand the present owner being petrified to get back on after what she saw, but maybe there was a reason for the bolt that the owner will never experience.
