Has anyone made a splash pool for their horses?

I’ve two mares out of 6 that always have their feet in the water trough.
i thought I’d make them a shallow splash pool maybe 8 inches deep with sloping sides. The base would be concrete with heavy rubber mat as padding
has anyone done this?

My mule can’t keep his feet out of the water troughs I have that are low to the ground. I bought him a kiddie pool a couple of years ago, thinking he would like it and he wanted nothing to do with it. I never saw him even drink out of it.

That figures. I suppose I would have to make a big show of pretending t9 keep them out if I wanted them to use it

Would a hoof bath in front of the trough make them happy? Here is an example of what I’m thinking of.

My mares made their own by constantly digging and rolling in one spot = horse-sized shallow hole in the ground that fills up with water when it rains. Very muddy horses! But they love it.

I have one that swims in the tank. I finally had enough and put the tank outside the fence. Removed the middle board and they reach through to drink. Works beautifully! Highly recommend!

My horses have had a natural pool at each of the last two farms we have had. Not one made by me, and not something that I was actually LOOKING for in a farm, but they recognized the opportunity to develop it on their own, as a pool for pool parties. It is very popular. Everyone gets in. Splashing, pawing and rolling, especially on a hot spring day, before winter coats are shed out, or in summer after a ride, and they are looking for some cooling off options.

If I was going to build one for a horse who wanted one, I would forgo the cement and rubber mat bottom. The muddy bottom is much more fun. And cheaper.
