Has anyone switched to a ration balancer over a complete feed and NOT liked it?

Since we’re now onto the topic of soaking and palatability, TC30 does behave a bit better when wet than Progressive Pro Elite. The Pro Elite breaks down more and gets kind of sludgy. It definitely seems to smell more appetizing though–last horse thought it was like candy. I think as far as the nutritional analysis TC30 is a superior product and I haven’t had one refuse to eat it.

I’m currently in a similar predicament. About a month ago, I switched my senior gelding from an “enhanced” vitamin/mineral supplement ( Super Weight Gain from Horse Guard) to Enrich Plus. I should also mention that he also gets 2 lbs of TC Senior because it is the most effective feed I have found to keep his weight up - but he would become fat on the minimum feed rate of 5-6 lbs. While I have noticed some improvement in his topline, his coat has become a bit dry and rough and his keratosis (cannon bone crud) has come back with a vengeance, and I’m noticing it spreading to other places on his body. The nutrient profile of TC 30 looks a bit better, so I may switch him over to that once this bag runs out and see what happens.

Mine get Seminole equilizer and my n=2 both eat it. One is a full on food hound (not the Fjord surprisingly) and he finished it off fast, the Fjord savors every morsel slowly and carefully. These days they really like it since I added beer a while ago, but even before the beer it wasn’t a problem. But as I said, that’s a small sample size.

As Jordana pointed out,it just all depends. If you switch from a fortified feed,t oa ration Balancer, and don’t balance out the Iron, or say you.hsve a horse who is sensitive to Soy, they you.msy not get the results you are wanting.

Or, if you have a horse who just straight up needs more calories then an RB alone, again you may not get great results.

But, if you are underfeeding a fortified feed, or feeding a feed that is only marginally fortified, or super high in Starch/Sugar and the horse is a youngster, or easy.keeper, then you most likely will be good results.

My Cushings pony decided he didn’t like TC 30. The two piggy mares liked it just fine. That was the only ration balancer I could buy without driving an hour one way to a certain feed store. The other feed store with TC 30 was 45 minutes and I could only access the store on Saturday mornings which wasn’t always convenient because nothing else was in that direction.

Then I discovered I could get Gro N’ Win from Chewy. When I did the per pound calc it was cheaper to get the feed delivered by Chewy than to spend a Saturday morning driving to the feed store. That sealed the deal. Everybody loves the Grow N’ Win. Their coats look fantastic but I do grind flax and feed that to them. I only go through 60 lbs of feed for the 3 horses per month so I am happy to get my monthy delivery of 2 bags. I was already getting cat food from Chewy so this is GREAT! All 3 of mine are too fat on good grass hay to need anymore calories than they get from 2 cups of GNW per day.

 More copper and zinc, and less iron, than the GNW.
