Has anyone tried Doc's OCD Pellets? (Joint Supplement)

I called Al’s old trainer today (racing) to see if she had anything for sale suitable as a hunt prospect and relayed the story about my mare who was sidelined with hock arthritis. She recommended that I try Doc’s OCD pellets. She said she had tried all of the other supplements without results and said she noticed a difference with these. I have this mare on Cosequin ASU and have not seen any results that warrant the cost.

Has anyone tried these? Results?

It’s a decent product but doesn’t begin to compare with injectables as far as bang for your buck goes. I would do a round of Pentosan instead.

We did Depo Medrol injections into the joint 4 weeks ago. Can/should Pentosan be used concurrently?

I recently moved so will be working with a different vet soon. My last vet was not comfortable using medications that were not FDA approved for use in horses.

Yes, Pentosan supports joint injections very nicely. It is without question the most effective drug or supplement for joint pain that I have ever used. As a race horse trainer for over 20 years I have pretty much tried everything. I probably shouldn’t say this since they are one of my husband’s client but Cosequin is worthless in my opinion. They gave me some for free and I gave it away.

Pentosan given IM, right? Or is it an oral supp? I’ve heard the name, but never looked into it. (I’ve just named myself the Official Spokesmodel for The Ignorant.)

I am wondering about this as a supplement to prevent joint problems on a 4 yr old horse that has very small ocd’s but no fragments — no pain etc
