Has Anyone Tried the Kentucky Stable Rug?

I have been lusting after these blankets for such a long time - they look so cozy, comfortable and beautiful!

Now, my horse isn’t the easiest on his blankets. He doesn’t rip them up (touch wood) but he does seem to like to lie in his poops in them.

Anyway, part of me still wants to buy the blanket, probably more so for myself. Terrible I know!

This is the one I am looking at: [https://www.kentucky-horsewear.com/en/kentucky-horsewear/rugs/stable-sheets/stable-rug-0g-200/]

Has anyone used these blankets?

What do you think of the artificial rabbit skin lining? Does your horse get too warm in them?

I would love any feedback on this blanket specifically.

Thank you! :grinning:

I call BS on the idea that the fake fur a) won’t rub, b) won’t collect shavings, and c) won’t collect horse hair. It looks like a cleaning nightmare aside from the high probability of rubbing issues.

Totally agree with @RedHorses. That’s a beautiful blanket–buy it for your bed, not your horse!

Thank you for your reply! That actually makes sense about the rubbing. I don’t mind the cleaning but don’t want it to rub my boy’s coat. He is sensitive enough as it is.

I have been lusting over these as well but I just don’t think I would enjoy cleaning the shavings off the collar. There is no way it would stay clean.

I can’t see them rubbing a clean clipped horse… maybe a trailering blanket?

That looked like the world largest collector of static electricity!

There’s a reason why nearly every other rug out there is lined with something slick at the shoulders. Even though this is “soft,” all of that texture is very likely to pull on hairs, causing a rub. Especially if it’s anything less than perfectly clean.

Probably okay to wear for short periods without any regularity when the horse isn’t likely to lie down. Photoshoots? (Or trailering short distance, as you suggest!)

I’ve only seen them new in the tack store. They seem beautiful and super soft when new. But I don’t know how that holds up to dirt/dander/shavings. It is at least a polyester type fiber so I don’t think it would get that gummy and rub, but probably more static than nylon, less than fleece. The exercise rugs seem super nice, especially the one that would work with monoflaps. IIRC the blankets are kind of heavy for stable blankets without a ton (or any ) fill.
