Has anyone used Pentosan on dogs?

CDE, my 75 lb dog gets .4 mL. I assume it’s 250 mg/mL but can confirm today.

Thanks!

I’ve been using it for some time on an elderly dog with lots of creakiness- he didn’t really respond to adequan, but the pentosan made a major difference, was actually able to take him off rimadyl after the first dose. We do the one-shot-a-week for 4 weeks every three months or so.

Bringing this back up (I know it’s super old) as I have a young Husky pup (~11month) presenting with what seems like arthritis in the hip and/ or knee. He will be going in for X-rays soon, and I am going to start him on the Acti-Flex 4000 as well, but I was thinking Pentosan couldn’t hurt. If we can get him “sound” on Pentosan and acti flex hopefully we can avoid any IA injections or surgery (if hip dysplasia). For those who used, did you do Sub Q, IM, or IV? I order the Pentosan Gold for the horses - would that be okay as well? Or do I need to order the regular Pentosan for the dog?

I did it IM. It was regular pentosan, I forget what the difference between that an pentosan gold is so can’t help with that.

Same here - regular Pentosan IM. Was giving it a try for my doberman with mild right hip dysplasia -

Also tried a course of Adequan. Neither those two made a difference for her, but ended up trying an oral joint chew that worked and eliminated the gait abnormality & occasional limping. It’s been about 2 years and she’s still sound on it.

So, if you don’t have success with the injectables, try a few orals and see if any of those work for him. The product that ended up working for me was Actistatin Canine by GLC, but Phycox is a good one too - there are a lot of good ones out there and I’m a believer that what works for one, may not work for another - I think you have to try a few out to find what works best for your individual dog.

Best luck with him!

Thanks guys!
The pentosan Gold has added glucosamine but that’s the only difference.
